Thivim to Gokarna trying to book but all waitlisted.
I am trying to book through IRTC website on the MARU SAGAR EXP on Saturday 3rd May, tried all classes but i keep getting ........ Wait Listed ticket reservation is not permitted on your e-ticket .
If you wish to book a waitlisted ticket please replan the same journey for i-ticket. Surely the train is never full up already? |

May be, it could have a very small quota for this sector, the vast majority of all seats/berths are kept for passengers travelling either: -
Departure to destination Departure to intermediate Intermediate to destination station. How many travelling? Would a Rs600-700 taxi be out of the question? There's a daily passenger train (KR1) departs Verna station at 13:55 and it gets to Gokarna Road station at 16:05, it's all 2nd class, but hardly anyone gets on at Verna so you can choose your own padded seats. We paid Rs650 from Calangute to Verna in a taxi, but the taxi driver didn’t think there was a station called Verna, there was. |

Where is Verna station? So would it be 600 rupees from Anjuna to Verna in a taxi?
Back to the original question. What about if i go to Thivim Station about a week before and try to book a train ticket then? Booked a ticket Gokarna to Cancona coming back on 5th May no problem. Just getting from Thivim to Gokarna is the problem. Thanks ![]() |

How much would it cost you to go into Thivim, book tickets, back to Anjuna, then into Thivim again for the train? (money and time), then add the booking charge, the higher cost of express trains ('Passenger' trains cost a lot less), and the higher cost because of the class you book on the train? Rs700 for a cab, Rs50 (or less) for the Passenger train from Verna, a good deal, esp if more than one person traveling. Quote:

Yes i have booked on the 2620/Matsyaganda Express on the way back to Cancona.
Your plan to go to Verna is the best option and i have located it on a map and googled the station. It's a small station for sure. Thanks for the very quick and valuable help ![]() Oh and can i get a train ticket in Anjuna for Verna-Gokarna or get one at Verna station? |

The train often runs an hour late (though you should still arrive on time), unfortunately, all the station staff know the train is going to be late, so they feel there's no need to tell anyone, all good fun. ![]() |

Great
it's all part of the fun. Nothing is ever straight forward in India but that's what makes it so rewarding. I will get there for 1pm and if i have to wait, so be it. I am on holiday no rush and i can get chatting to the locals on the way down. |

Ok, just out of curiosity i was looking at what station had cheap sleepers available and that i could book from to Gokarna on the 2978 MARU SAGAR EXP. If i book from NAD NAGDA JN 1 16:54 16:56 0464 1 ...to.... GOK GOKARNA ROAD 1 14:48 14:50 2009 2. It's only 449 rupees in sleeper class. That works out cheaper than going to Verna in a taxi and getting the passenger train. So the thing i need to know is.... can i do this booking? In other words can i do the above booking but get on at Thivim? not get on at Nagda, or must i get on at the station i have booked at as my starting destination? Hope this is not to confusing.

You can pay for a journey from Nagda to Gokarna, but you have to state that you'll board the train at Thivim, once you say you'll board at Thivim, the system now automatically looks for availability on the Thivim - Gokarna sector, so you'd be waitlisted.
If you don't say that you'll be boarding at Thivim, the ticket man on the train will assume you've missed the train at Nagda and give your seat/berth to an RAC or waitlisted ticket holder. You could just take the chance, turn up at Thivim, but a 2nd class unreserved (Superfast) ticket and board the train in the unreserved carriages of the Maru Sagar Express, but this is a bad idea for 2 reasons, the unreserved carriages can be insanely overcrowded, and this train starts it's journey some 26 hours earlier, it could easily be delayed by a few hours or more. You could also just get a local bus to Panjim, then an express (non stop) bus to Madgaon, then a bus to Gokarna. |

It looks better to get the passenger train from Gokarna to Cancona on my way back as well. Oh well, i will keep my ticket for the express train just in case i miss the morning passenger train then.
