1. Thanks .. noted
2. KS-Bluechip is in the LB quota (SRCTZN) in2A. Not available being shown today (opening day) means gone into booking...
3. better to put people on W/L in 2A, i.e. those not yet booked. Scenario will change as the month (s) progress.

Good wishes.

We're supposed to be in 2AC for MS-RMM, it was RMM-CAPE where we are 3AC as it's the best on offer. That's what I asked for anyway.
There's a pecking order, the youngies will end up in 3AC for the night.

And on that point, so long as the RMM-CAPE gets in on time (04:05), I think we'd be better off trying to see the sunrise (06:30ish) then get to Nagacoil for the 07:55 passenger to Trivandrum (arr 09:55) to get more time in Trivandrum/Kovalam.
So do i still book the bangalore express then as a back up? Im assuming we can get tickets for the above train at the counter or do we reserve them as well... sorry for asking this at such short notice

Edit: oh im booked on the MS-RMM as well... for the second of march...

it's a local/passenger train from nagercoil, so no, you cant book it.
we will have reservations on the bangalore express also, but obviously at no extra cost.
I expect this local passenger to be somewhat riotous, but we're getting it at source so we should be able to stake a claim before it fills up completely. I know this mucks things up a little for anyone doing the southern loop.

No need to book the Bangalore Express, the big trains are very quiet on this stretch because so many of the bookings are from Trivandrum or Cochin, I had a whole Sleeper Class carriage to myself from Cape to TVC on the Bangalore Express.

I don't know if the passenger train will be as quiet, the SL class fare from Cape to TVC is Rs120, the 2nd class fare on the passenger is less than Rs20, but if I had to guess, I'd say the 06:45 passenger would take the bulk of the morning traffic on this route, and there should still be enough space for our group on the 07:55.

So the next question is, do we get off the 07:55 passenger 30 minutes before Trivandrum at Balaramapuram?

This would mean missing the India Coffee House experience, but it would mean easier access to Kovalam, an earlier arrival at Kovalam, and it would avoid the inevitable punch-up with the Trivandrum Mafia to get a decent auto fare to Kovalam.

Ah, I wondered if there was an earlier stop.
We still get the coffee house, we'll do that on the way back, I think we'll all be far more interested in locating a "sit down" shower and a shave than having a coffee, however good it is (and as I recall the coffee is fantastic).
It sounds like a no brainer, though I would still think that 20 of us pitching for a ride is asking for the laws of supply and demand to take effect, wherever we are.

What's a "removable .. sleeping bag" ?, as uppose to an imovable one.
I havent decided yet if I'll take one, or go a la Steven and just try and get hold of a rug in Dibrugarh. They tend to make life more comfy all round, and we arent going to be doing a great deal of non powered movement.

We seem to be all on the 2789. The diff with the previous day is 16, so I am hoping at least 1 was taken for the monday train. Once The Great Circular Indian Booking Challenge" is done I'll ask shankar for the berths details, though I'm not sure when he gets those.

Is there a way of determining the orignal quota for a given train and class ?.

1. I need one sleeping bag which has a 'removable' quilt' inside it. So that one can unzip it or whatever when not required. It will be cold for us Indians, especially me, since I am doing 2SL the most, and will require it at night to bunk in it, and avoid carrying rugs with me ! it zips up with heads covered, and I am warm ! It may not be that cold for those from UK or the northern regions/those traveling 2AC I am making queries here too...

2. Re: berths, just Shankar for the PNR details of everyone, and send them to me through my other id which you know. I will tell you the exact position. He should have got them by now anyway because once the booking is made, the PNRs have been generated !

3. I will shortly hazard a guess on all the trains, say, by tomorrow. I have to check the rake composition of each train... and they have changed quite a bit in recent days.

If you have more questions, just ask me... through my mail id: delhimurlidhar@gmail.com

Now to the nuts and bolts: IF possible, please send me the names of the passengers and passport numbers \, nationalities,so that I can formally apply for permission for photography where permitted.

While unravelling the mystery about 2424 showing Reservation Suspended, I had spoken to the seniormost official, as I had mentioned earlier, and he offered, perhaps off-handedly, to give permission .. I now want to see how serious he was..anyway, I would like to begin the paperwork NOW, so that Sunday evening I courier it to New Delhi, with copies to all and sundry involved.
Please send it to my email id, the particulars and PNR numbers. I will unravel the mystery behind these if you so wish

Good wishes.

Change your Boarding to Pune ! From Panvel there are lots of trains to Pune.. contact me via IM the Jag.. Check it out instead of going down to catch the train, go upto Pune thereby reaching Pune before your DR Express !!! involves a bit of trouble, but certainly worth it if TVC Runs late.. contact me via IM or send me a mail.

Use indianrail.gov.in and check under Seat availability and choose "click here if you know station codes given at the bottom of that page. Chose PNVL Pune and enter the date ! and choose the train which suits you most. Have doubts send me a mail or contact me on my numbers given in my profile.

Good wishes.

Good wishes.

according to my stats, the 2431 is usually no more than an hour late. We had a week or so when the Konkan got broke during the rains, but it's only had 3 ones significantly over an hour other than then. But one of those was early March....

For all Brits

You now need a passport photo that's 50mm x 50mm for your visa application form, that's NOT the normal size 'passport photo'

Beware, and remember, if your visa application isn't 110% perfect and smelling of spring flowers, they reject the application.
