Not a clue who Yogesh on irfca is, though there is a yogesh kumar who knows someone I know on facebook. I decided that if you cant reply to at least one of 10 facebook spams then it's safe to assume you arent actually coming. So everyone got zapped, the only people left in that group have ether booked or are certain to.

We did get a new Mumbai-ite from that globetrooper promo who claimed they were "100% definitely coming", though once they realised that it wasnt pay me 200 and I'll take you on a trip they seem to have vanished, again.

I'll go find out where bhildi and samdari are.
I hope I am not in that 'vanished' crowd ! I am in CBE Indiamikers, yet to get to the station to find out what is what. Sudden trip to SBC (Bangalore) for a two day trip Sat and Sun) err, actually 1 and a half day, or just a day. Reach 1400 IST Sat, and leave SBC 1300 hrs.. Marriage in family. Attendance must. Good wishes.

Any research experts out there?

I was just looking at the Bhildi-Samdhari trains and found a train that, with a few alterations, could get us into Jodhpur about 14 hours before the Adi-Jat, whilst looking for ways to get from Dwarka to Gandhidham I found the following....

Quote:
The main reason to come to Mundra is to take advantage of the new ferry crossing (3-4hr; Rsi55, Rs210 a/c) to Sikka for Jamnagar. Tickets can be booked at Rajchamunda Travels (02838/22511), not far from the bus stand; the boat leaves at 5pm daily and there are transfers at each end of the trip for Rs10.
http://indiatouring.com/travel/mundr...thern-gujarat/

As the boat departs at 5pm, I assume it must arrive from the other side before 4pm, this would give us plenty of time to get to Gandhidham (60kms) by 19:15 for the Jodhpur train.

However, I've tried calling that telephone number and just can't get anywhere, maybe the international code I'm trying is wrong (091 and 0091), and I've tried dialing the number with and without the '0'.

I've also tried googling the travel agent, but got nowhere.

Anyone have any ideas?

well, obviously we can do some surgery, I've found a good guy for the dwarka taxis, so I'll go ask him about this.
but the launch date is fixed, and I dont see how we're going to do this without losing a night, desirable though it is for our convexity .

It would mean departing from Mumbai at about 08:00 instead of 20:00

can you elucidate please, I'm looking at a night in Jamnagar off the back of the Jamnagar intercity 9059. Which has FC!.
....
ah, I see that 5045.

humf, of course I have no data on any of these, but that 9059 alas is too tight, it could easily end up behind the 5045, or we could miss it being late into vadodora

ok. i just worked out where bandra is. this is turning into a non starter alas. i think we need to give everyone the chance to at least make the starting grid. my lot are all booked to turn up on thursday lunch/afternoon. getting to bandra for a 7:55am launch is going to mean someone blowing up before they've got the 1st train

Oh well, never mind, ever since you started this thread I've been looking for a way across that water and to the short cut that avoids Ahmedabad.

I noticed another one today, not much of a short cut, but a bit more interesting than Ahmedabad (actually a nice city if we had more time), the train to ADI gets to Viramgam at 04:46 (Damn, people would love me for waking them up), just in time to see the sun rise over the Sun Temple at Modhera (1 hour away), then Mahesana station is about 40 minutes from Modhera, and the ADI-JAT calls at Mahesana at 12:30.

(There's also an unreserved train departing Viramgam at 06:00 getting to Mahesana at 07:55)

well yes, but we've all gone and bought our flights!
I really dig the ferry idea, as I'm sure everyone else will. I'll see what I get back from my new mate vishal.

This could obviously be an optional excursion. You never struck me as a sun worshiper .

I'm really tempted by the ferry idea, especially if we could bank on getting FC up to Jamnagar. But bloody hell, we are about to start booking, and we are going to be dog tired very quickly with this one.

Hi Steve

The number is given as area code(02838) and the number(22511) which is the old number. You need to add a '2' before the old number, which incidentally applies to all India, to get the new number(222511). So the number you need to dial from the UK is 00912838222511 or +912838222511.

I called them and they do bookings for the ferry.

cheers,

praks

so it's not bandra of course, it's BCT at 08:20 for the 9215. still a bit early, but doable if we convene at say 07:00 at churchgate What's it like getting on board at churchgate at that time ?, surely you dont have to be an olympic athlete like during rush hour.
this leaves us at porbander which we'd lost on the original plan. but then we'd probably have to road it all the way back to JAM by road, i.e. arrive and leave Dwarka by rubber, which is starting to seriously break the mission statement (my unofficial rules state you have to do each of these extremities at last one way by rail). Even doing that, the stop at Dwarka could only be a couple of hours anyway.

well, there is this 2933 karanavati express bct-adi with a more civilized departure time, but we'd then be talking swiss railways tolerance on the connection with that saurashtra express which we will have, in theory, passed on the way up, so it's getting silly, and I really want to see dwarakanish temple in floodlights.

ah, my man in Jamnagar responded

Hi Mark

AS of now, there is no ferry service between Jamnagar-Mundra.
So it's not possible to book that service.

Regards

Sorry, Mark, Have lost you guys now
Can you repost all the main routes and alternatives? At this stage, I think the original should stand

This way I think we will all (hopefully me too) end up nowhere. And remember changing bookings enroute is NOT advisable, Feb be damned ! It's quite rough and tough, especially with Indrail passes because some of the stations don't have that much knowledge about Indrail passes, and you get passed on from one to the other... and really do you have the time. In case you miss a train, then it's the Railways fault, and jolly well they will do something when we all together bambozzle the guys...

Think about it will you, Mark, Steve and everybody else..

My post is NOT final. But do give the alternatives.

By the way, the Train numbers undergo minor changes from 15th Decembe 2010. So you might find for example only 9055 as 19055.. don't get bothered with that..

Please read this in full and in extenso.

Good wishes.

Murli
