ah, you are one of my two downloaders!.
there is a rail layer, they are thin black lines.....
it's under places of interest -> transportation - > rail
but google's railways are so-so, especially once you get off the beaten "track".

I'm still trying to work out what that dirty great big viaduct is about 10 miles up from jammu. it's nearly a mile long!. (it might be two bridges technically, but it's at least 1.3 km).

social networking

You may notice I now have a double URL sig. I've opened up a facebook group as they are now claiming to be bigger than google.
If you have a facebook account please join the group. If you have a facebook account AND haven't bottled out of doing this, please join the event associated with it, as it looks like it's only me right now. Surely not .....

The group is here
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=372971199730

The "event" is here (as ever, nothing is legally binding, so just sign up for the event anyway!)

over planning department

Here is my initial rough sketch of a flow chart for the critical BCT->NDLS section,
It's really just an exercise in preposterous over-planning, but might turn out to be a bit of fun if I can flesh it out some more, add refueling icons and other nonsense.
The rest of the plan is fairly obvious. I'll finish that off later. please pass on any contingency plans you might have up your sleeve for what happens if the adi-jat becomes fog bound.

As the song goes "it's all one quiet over there".

I've completed phase one of the flow chart.
This is especially for someone in the low countries who used to hang out in here but has gone to another part of cyberspace .
I would appreciate input from certain other celebrated individuals if you get the time.

it's just a bit of fun really, I'm going to embellish it with lots of silly stuff. "Input Idly" icons and stuff.
but if there is anywhere specific that you know the ins and outs of then try and zoom in.
I'm going to scan in some of my old photos for the facebook group
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?v=...d=372971199730
and what are the "Railfanning Shayris" all about ?. I was going to join and spam them but it's all in Hindi and latinised Hindi dont work too good in babelfish

Shayris is a kind of poetry, originally started in Urdu, seeped into Hindi. The Railfanning Shyaris is all about penning old film songs with the nuances of the Railways in Between! For instance Upar wala RACwale ke nahin sun Tha Re (The God Above does not listen to the person holding an RAC ticket)! Kaun hai jo PRS ke Gagan me usko Pukare (Who is the person who knows somebody in PRS rarefied strata who can call him)! Of course in the transliteration the meaning is somewhat diluted. It's an old song from on old Hindi Movie changed...

What time, pray, does BBC propose to show this? Please do specify whether it is GMT or not so that I can check it out. O by the way, there is a power shut down completely in my town from 0900 to 1800 hrs IST

Good wishes.

I asked this guy if we could use his pic with the usual "if you dont want me to, just ignore".
No reply, sob. She's so cute.

Also, I have just one person from in here to join the facebook group. I know many of you wont have a facebook account or may be feeling shy, but I expected at least 3 or 4. You dont have to be on the train, I just need body mass in the group right now.

My current realistic estimate for foreign (based) participants on the trip is significantly below 10. That's people who respond within a couple of days of me talking to them. I have picked up a couple of locals though in Mumbai, Chennai and Caoe who will join for parts. From my point of view, Indians are relatively maintenance free and are value added, so the more the merrier, even if it's just for one stop.

The single figure head count has it's advantages, especially for these road trips which can be done in a single people carrier. Though hiring a steam train in Darjeeling will cost more than half the Indrail each at this rate.
