Net, just now.I have booked a normal 2A a couple of days back. It is W/L 15, so thought i buy one in tatkal and cancel the previous one. But this is also W/L.
What if i board the train? will there be a seat? if i pay money to the TC, will he allow me to sit?
I really need to be in Kakinada by tomorrow morning.
Good to see a reply so fast.

Hi Gunturboy!!
A ticket purchased online has its validity on board only if it gets confirmed. Otherwise the ticket gets cancelled automatically and the ticket cost is refunded in the bank A/C through which it was debited at the time of booking. So my advice for you would be to wait until the chart comes out which should be at around 4-5 in the evening. If the ticket gets confirmed by itself, its fine. If not, then you can purchase a general class ticket and board the train after consulting the TTE. There is a provision in Railways under which they shall convert your general ticket into a AC or Sleeper class ticket with panelty. But in that case you shall at least be able to board the train.

I dont think i would have enough time to talk to the TTE first and then purchase the ticket. What if i purchase the ticket first and board the train, find him and talk to him (and by the time all this happens, i believe the train will be moving).
I dont want to sleep, all i need is just a seat where i can sit.

I never asked you to talk to the TTE first and then get the ticket. You need to get a general ticket first, then talk to the TTE. You can also board the train and the talk to him. But what happens is that there are other vigilance inspectors of railways who are on board to super check if any passanger is without ticket. In such case the TTE makes prior 'adjustments' with those people and arrange for travel. Thats all. The bottom line is that (sadly), In India if you are willing to pay money then there's nothing that you cant do or get. So be assured that you'll be able to make it Brother.

then do cancel your online ticket and get a ticket from the counter, move to the the station well before time and talk with the ticket collector they might make something for you but be prepared to pay something extra

So, i should buy a general ticket, find him, explain my position and he would be able to show me a seat, right? Is there a chance that even by doing the above things, he might not show me a seat?
And for now i dont worry about that sad part.
Thanks for the reply brother

I am not sure about the boarding of the train, i might not finish my work by train time. I have booked a bus ticket and will go by bus if i finish my work early, else i would cancel the bus ticket and try to board the train if the work gets done by train time.

There is no guarantee that he'll allot you a berth. But just for your exclusive info, berth no. 7/8 of AC-3 is reserved for the TTE. So they generally take their 'special' passangers on that seat to their destinations in case any other seat is not vacant.

Mine is 2A. Let me see if he can give them to me.Thanks for the useful info.

@gunturboy26: The TTE is constantly followed by WL/ seat hopefuls looking at getting their WL ticket confirmed/seat alloted from a General ticket. You may try you luck, whether you will be successful, is anybody's guess. The most that he will allow if he has no berths to spare (Availability is unlikely as its a weekend on which a lot of wedding are scheduled) is to allow you to sit on the seats that are in SL coaches. AC coach he will not allow you to get in even.
One option is to catch satavahana exp now at 1615 and get to VJA, then catch any train going towards Kakinada.

What if i offer him more than the others, i think that might help. Anyway, i just need a place to sit, forget about AC.I have some work which i hope i would be completing by 8, if that happens i would board the bus, i booked a ticket. If i couldnt finish my work by 8, this train is the only option.
Thanks for the info.

##Even in SL Coaches, there will be so many passengers who are dropped from the Waiting List. As such, gaining a place to sit even in SL Coaches is extremely difficult, atleast today.

##The OP had stated that he had a confirmed Bus Ticket.:-)
Quote:
##As stated by Narendra, he will be shadowed by those who are dropped from the Waiting List with the Tickets purchased in the PRS Counter (**not E-Ticket Holders).##If your office is close to a PRS, go and purchase a Reserved Ticket in the PRS Counter; if not, travel by Bus for which you have a confirmed ticket.
##Now, please look at this:
