Tatkal ticket

I needed to go varanasi urgently due to some reason .when i book tatkal ticket through irctc the server was down & not working proprely& at 08:06 am clock wait list reached upto 27 hence i coudnt go.

its impossible to book a tatkal ticket for a Friday evening or Sunday evening, the servers will all be flooded and i believe the agents stand a chance of booking the ticket than an individual logged in from home and dont forget the long queues at all reservation centres.

Tatkal - Best done at a brick & Mortar PRS counter than an online site.

I also tried to book Tatkal ticket yesterday, at 8 A.M. ,server was very slow and it was impossible to book tatkal tickets, later after half an hour, all tickets were booked and there wa waiting list available .
Do not know how agents/ dalals book Tatkal tickets

They have people on the inside at PRS's where they get them. However with ID proof and all required, now it has become difficult. Still happens though. How, even I would like to know?

a few ways i could gather:
- they have a tie-up with some booking clerks (mostly the ones who are sitting at 'closed' counters who start punching well before common public can hand over the slip...
- they have a tie-up with TTEs for not checking the ID proof of passengers bearing their e-tkt print-outs (their e-tkt print out looks different from what we get)
- they know from the booking clerks about the number of potential CKWL tkts that will be cleared (based on demand/usage of other quotas) & confidently book tkts in WL knowing it will confirm
- finally they have access to the unit that controls EQ quota release & can arrange letters from relevant officials to convert your WL to confirmed one, even before chart preparation

The whole internet Tatkal process is been hijacked by the travel agents/touts and it is impossible for commoners to get any tickets on their own. Agents are able book the tickets on behalf of last minute travels and charge a premium. By some estimates, this scam is huge has run up into the amount of Rs 10,000 Crores (~$2 Billion)

Today at 8.05 A.M. while booking Tatkal Tickets, I filled up all informations required ( 10 berths were available ) and when I tried for payment- got this message on my screen-- Service Unavailable , and it was logged off, again I logged on IRCTC, tried again, when I was about to reach payment option got this message again-- Service not available, at about 8 .11 I again logged on IRCTC- now there was a Waiting List .

You can not blame only Travel Agents and Touts( Dalals), because they can not hack Railway Tatkal Booking site DAILY without the help of Railway officials

Tatkal ticket is one of the most sought after booking for all the trains. Tatkal booking is meant for immediate plans. Tatkal booking for every train opens 2 days in advance at 8 am.

NOT 2 days. Its ONE DAY in advance of the trains journey from the starting station.
