Tatkal

Is now Tatkal allowed from intermediate stations?
When I check fares on IRCTC site, it tells me the fare
including Tatkal (if I have chosen Tatkal) even if my stations are not originating or terminating ie
Jaipur to Ahemedabad on Ashram.
Has the Tatkal rule changed this year since earlier Tatkal fare was only offered from originating to terminating station?

I'm not aware of any change in the rules.

I guess you'd have to pay the fare from Delhi to Ahmedabad for the Ashram Exp. (+ the Tatkal charge)

Dear Mehra,

For some Trains, TATKAL is being allowed from an Intermediate Station to Terminating Station, such as,

NGP-NDLS by 2723

CLT-MAS by 2601

PUNE-HYB by 7031.

##If you get Tatkal Availability from an Intermediate Station to Terminating Station, then TATKAL is available. If you don't get TATKAL availability, then TATKAL is NOT available.

##Tatkal Fare is being indicated automatically irrespective of its availability.

VSP, do you think this could be the case where coaches are added to a train?

eg. are extra coaches added to 2723 at NGP? and this is the reason Tatkal is allowed?

No, Steven, Extra Coaches are NOT added at Intermediate Stations.

Perha;ps, you will be interested to know in 2785 Kachiguda-Bangalore Express the Tatkal Quota is 302 Berths which means 4 Coaches out of the 14 Coaches!!!!

It seems that IR is going beyond the earlier idea of providing 10% of the seats as Tatkal and doing it pretty quietly also.

On Ashram (Ahmedabad-Delhi) The Tatkal quota for 3A is 48
and the regular quota is only 106.

I guess thats how they are getting those impressive profit figures and that our media is too stupid to inquire into.

14th (I think)....5 days ahead, not including date of journey. (and this from the trains starting station/date, Delhi, not Jaipur).

Details should be given, even if you don't think they're needed, it's difficult to help someone if you don't know the details.

I've had to check for every class.

Try booking this train from 'Gandhinagar Jpr' station, this station is 6kms before Jaipur and it's on a different quota, there is still berths available on the general quota in Sleeper Class, and RAC in 3-tier air con (Take RAC if you choose 3A, no time to explain), this will be a whole lot cheaper than Tatkal, as with Tatkal you need to pay from Delhi-Jaisalmer, then add the Tatkal charge, you could get a taxi to Gandhinagar Jpr for less, (though I'd still board from Jaipur station myself)

thanks steven.

I'm trying for WL since it's only about 5. However it says:

Wait Listed ticket reservation is not permitted on your e-ticket .
If you wish to book a waitlisted ticket please replan the same journey for i-ticket.

I don't have an address in India for them to send the ticket to, what should i do?

Train No 4059 Train Name DLI JSM EXPRESS
From JP To JAISALMER(JSM)
Date 20-Mar-2008 Class AC 3 Tier(3A)
Boarding Point JP Reservation Upto JAISALMER(JSM)
Quota General

You're confusing me.

Why 20th, you had asked about the 19th.

And are you looking to book in 3-tier air con?

The train on the 20th is busy, so if you're wanting to use that train, you'll have to wait for Tatkal bookings.

But if you're travelling on the 19th, BOOK FROM GANDHIDHAM JPR, and book now.

I'm not going to explain RAC, there's only a 50% chance that your travelling on the 19th, and already enough of this reply could be wasting my time as you don't give details.

Jaipur to Jaisalmer has a quota of 8 in 3-tier air con, so a waitlist number of 5 isn't too impressive when you consider that 5 of those 8 people would need to cancel before you'd get on the train with a WL/05 ticket. (Unlikely)

Gandhidam jpr - Jaisalmer has a quota of 92 in 3-tier air con, so an RAC 05 ticket (that already gets you on the train) would only need 5 cancellations from 92 people to get you a confirmed berth. (very likely)

Gandhidam jpr - Jaisalmer will cost Rs 690 in 3A on the general quota.

Jaipur - Jaisalmer will cost Rs 1189 in 3A on the Tatkal quota. (as you have to pay for the whole route + a Rs 300 Tatkal charge.

A new set of nails will cost about Rs 500, you'll need these after waiting to book on the Tatkal quota, there are only 3 berths available in 3A for the Tatkal quota, and these could be snapped up by someone in India within seconds of them becoming available.

Like I said earlier, book Gandhidam Jpr - Jaisalmer in the general quota, there is still RAC tickets available, you can print these at home and have the tickets in your hand.

Hi Steven, thanks much for your help. I've decided to travel on Sleeper class instead, 2 tickets add up to less than tatkal fees for 2 tickets

I didn't even check the Jaipur - Jaisalmer general Sleeper Class quota, I assumed you had either checked, or you didn't want to use Sleeper Class.

Enjoy Sleeper Class, it will be dusty (fine sand) from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer.
