| Tatkal Scheme Hi, I was just looking at some availability out of curiosity. Some long distance trains are in wait listed status (say Chennai to Mumbai as example). No seats are available. But under Tatkal scheme, all berths are available (4 for ACII). What is stopping people for cancelling their WL tickets and booking under Tatkal? Seems like Tatkal berths are there for the taking, even under big waitlisted status. |

| Nothing stopping them, except the cost which is considerably higher!! Plus the tickets for the Taktal quota don't go on sale until 5 days before departure, with only few berths available on this quota, it's not sure that you will get a berth!! |

| Yep, but seems like if you are on WL status, you should get on the internet, and book under tatkal (under 5 days). The only drawbacks are the extra charges per person (not much compared to the price of higher class tickets, if I may say) and the full end to end booking, even if you are boarding from another station. I am surprised that (for Chennai Mail) there was like WL40 or more on 12th Dec, but all 4 ACII were available. You would think that someone from those 40 people would be trying hard to book under Tatkal. |

1) If a confirmed Tatkal Ticket is cancelled on the day of journey, the entire amount paid by the passenger would be freezed by the Railways; nothing would be given to the passenger. 2) It is extremely difficult to get a Confirmed Tatkal Ticket on the Internet when the booking opens (**two days in advance). | |
