Tatkal Reservation at Thiruvanmiyur - Chennai

Hello Friends,

I wanted to book tatkal tickets at Thiruvanmiyur counter, as from irctc I am not able to book - within 3 minutes all ~20 tickets getting booked.


So i wanted to know -
1. At what time I have to go to Thiruvanmiyur tatkal booking counter, as it starts at 10 AM, So do i have to go and stand in early morning say 7 AM

2. Is there are any rail ticket booking counter in Velachery?


if you have any info OR any experience, please share.

I am not sure if you can book regular long distance train tickets at Tiruvanmiyur or Velachery - you could may be walk up to the station ask there if you live closeby.

However, the two nearest places that I know for sure offer this facility are Rajaji Bhavan at Besant Nagar & the Mylapore MRTS station.

Well, I have seen people booking reservation ticket at Thiruvanmiyur - on right side from the window where we get local MRTS tickets.

If there is a computerized reservation centres available at mentioned places, TATKAAL booking can be done there.

You will be required to do dry run before hand to see when the people reach there to book tickets. Always try to be the first person, else you will miss it.

I don't want to do DRY RUN, and that's why I choose this forum, to get info from people who has real time experience/correct info for which this question is asked for.. :-)

I don't think anyone has done it from this forum, but if you do and you post it you will be the first and it will help a lot of people.

Surely I'll post my recommendation if I book it through Tatkal counters.

No Krishna, I did not visit Thiruvanmiyur reservation counter, I postpone the journey.

For Tatkal tickets -
What I observed that from Chennai to Mumbai OR From Mumbai to Chennai, to get Tatkal from irctc is very difficult. I tried 9 times but did not get
And I saw that for advanced booking in general reservation for 3AC/2AC, seats are booked for 3 to 3.5 months, I wonder - those really booked tickets OR something is cooking - By Agent I guess..

Booking Tatkal on IRCTC is indeed a lottery, has been that way for a long time. If you want to book Tatkal, either stand (or get someone else) in a queue at the Reservation counters.

Many trains get fully booked on opening day itself, which is 4 months before. For travel during summer, Dec/Jan period or festival/important days, booking does indeed exhausts all the General quotas. Not saying that Agents don't add to this, but it is getting tougher by the day for them. Good thing on the whole.
