Strange error message relating to cancelling ticket
Strange error message relating to cancelling ticket
Hello,
I have bought a WL ticket which i have had for a few days and is moving nicely up the queue. I went into my account this morning to check on the ticket and noticed a very odd message in red above the ticket list in the "booked tickets" section of the site:
"Check the PNR status to confirm cancellation of your ticket. On failure of
cancellation of the ticket with repeated attempts please contact us immediately at
011-23340000 / 23345500 / 23344787 / 23344773 / 23345800 or email us at etickets@irctc.co.in"
I then tried to look at the PRN ticket status (which granted may NOT have been wise) and it could had an error message reporting a connection failure but it did show the details of the ticket.
Now is the really odd because i have only ever bought one ticket and have not tried to cancel it. I don't want to cancel and am rather alarmed to think it might be cancelled!
Has anybody seen this message before and can tell me what it means?
I sent an email to the address above early this morning but no response so far.
I need to purchase more tickets but am not sure if it is wise to do so on this account as i don't them to be cancelled!
any thoughts suggestions welcome.

"Connection failures" are temporary.
Check that PNR: it looks as if you may have cancelled the ticket! I'm sure that the last time I did cancel a ticket, it asked me for the ID details I gave with the booking; so not that easy to do by accident.
Also look at your booking history on the site too.

still no change
well i did not try and don't recall entering any such information so i don't think i can have done.
I have check the ticket status again this morning and the PRN status still has the error message "Unable to retrieve due to communication failure." at the top.
I think i am going to have to forget this booking as something has clearly gone very wrong and just book a flight, assuming they still have space.
It is rather ironic that before i have even left england the Indian railway system is proving to be a nightmare

i tried your suggestion of clearing out all the browser history including cookies but this has not helped.
I guess i will have to wait and see what (if ever) the support folks say in response to my email.
In the mean time i have created a new account and started again.

Thanks for the suggestion about checking the PRN number online and the URL is www.indianrail.gov.in/pnr_stat.html.
I am still none the wiser but it interesting to note that the waiting list status has not moved on this ticket for days. I will work on trying to get this ticket unblocked somehow.

I haven't looked into the details of your query here, but it should be noted those waitlists by their very nature often only start really moving very close to departure. As people start canceling, unused quotas get distributed, etc. Similar Threads
