Hi folks, struggling with this new interface and new phone too!

I have today visited the foreign tourist office at New Delhi station. I noticed that the opening hours are reduced from 24/7 to open 0600 through until 2300 hrs. Probably sensible.
I booked two tickets Delhi to Amritsar. One was from ftq and one from General quota.
(at least there were hundreds shown available on the second date.)
The Base fare was shown as Rs. 790 each way in chair car. I was charged Rs. 1100 per ticket. I don't know how this total was arrived at at all.

Quite happy to pay up, just surprised to find tourist quota and general seem to attract the same premium.

I assume you have booked the tickets in the Shatabdi train (Rs 795/- in CC class). For FTQ tickets they charge Rs 200/- extra + GST (5%). Even after that I think we are falling short of around Rs 50/-.

As per the circular the FTQ ticket fare were to be 1.5 times more than the regular fare. It seems you were not charged that.

Yes, quite confusing... I should have asked for an explanation of the charges, but after a long wait, I was just relieved to obtain the tickets!

Doesn't the ticket mention the full breakup of the amount? It should.

The only sums shown are R.fee 40 S.ch 90 and Sf. Charge 45. T.cash 1100.

No worries on a short journey but it is a lot to pay extra on a long distance rajdhani for example.

So the ticket shows the entire amount paid? Then I guess it ain't case of cheating

I never claimed any cheating, I am simply unaware of how the total was arrived at, no one seems to be able to explain that...?

I believe the answer to the ticket price lies in the terminology!

My chums on an Indian railfans website pointed out that although the price of my ticket for any local Indian citizen would be Rs.790, that price already included taxes and superfast charges, etc, etc. So the correct base price on which the 1.5 x tourist increase was to be levied is somewhat lower.

As I said, it was not a big deal, but interesting to find out the facts. There was mention in some of the railway "circulars" of an extra Rs. 200 fee, which was not evident in this case... maybe only when booking online outside the regular 120 days ticket window?
