OK....AAAARRRGGGGGG

I created all new email and Cleartrip accounts and registered with IRCTC through the Cleartrip site.

I have been waiting, emailing, and phoning IRCTC since 9 August. 3 ticket numbers and at least 10 calls. I got a "sucessful registration" email from IRCTC, but they will not email me my Cleartrip mobile OTP. (I attach my passport scan with all my email and include my IRCTC username).

Now I'm worried...will my stupid email OTP be invalid by now? How long are they good for? If so, do I have to go through the whole process through Cleartrip again? I'm worried I won't have any trains to book, they will be full (I'm starting 2 1/2 months ahead, but its still not too good)

Anything else I can do????
It might be the best of times or the worst of times...but it's the only time you've got!

Have a look at #440 above. You might try the same.

What sort of response have you been getting to your phone calls? Did you quote the various ticket# numbers from their e-mails to you?

Have you tried changing browser?
The inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.

It worked! The first reply I got was one of the standard ones asking me to submit a screenshot of the error message, which got me a bit worried. But the new mobile OTP came through and I'm now registered. Thanks to barbaraj for this method.

You can check the time using www.indiarailinfo.com or www.erail.in. Best of all buy a copy of Trains at a Glance from a station bookstall when you get to India.

Got that bit. It just seems a little unusual and could catch you out if you made assumptions.

I give up...got an email from "care" two days ago asking for name, DOB, registered mobile number etc. Now nothing. Re-emailed them my passport scan.

Got the "successful registration" email from IRCTC on 9 Aug, it is now 26 Aug.

20 phone calls and 12 emails. Maybe I'm blocked

MY IRCTC login works....applying for an expedited AMEX card...

How infuriating for you. There is very little rhyme or reason as to how the thing works. Every now and then we stumble across something that seems to help a few people but so far we seem to be stumped with your case.

Hope your Amex comes through OK. Looking on the bright side. Using IRCTC means that you have access to all reserveable trains not just the ones that Cleartrip can be bothered to put in their system.

My "successful registration" e-mail arrived on 13th August, and nothing since despite several reminder emails from me. I'm not inclined to email them again since the more emails we send IRCTC the more they have to plough through. I haven't tried 'phoning yet, and I wonder if it's worth trying. What has happened when you have 'phoned ? Did you manage to speak to anybody, and what did they say ?

Phoning them worked for me. I had to quote the various ticket# numbers that they had previously sent me. I received the SMS OTP within 2 hours.

Dear Dave,

Thank you for your fast and encouraging response. I've just tried 'phoning on 91 11 393 40000, only to hear soothing music - no message - for a couple of minutes before being cut off. I'll keep trying.

Could you possibly remind me of the times when IRCTC is closed ? And how far ahead Indian Summer Time is of British Summer Time ?

I just went onto the IRCTC site to see if I could spot their hours. They are currently showing this message in their Alerts & Updates

Due to some technical problem Customer care no.011-39340000 is not functional. Please call our Chennai Customer Care no.044-25300000 or mail us on care@irctc.co.in. Inconveniences caused is deeply regretted.
Indian Standard Time is 4.5 hours ahead of British Summer Time. A previous poster on this thread mentioned that she had a succesful conversation with somebody on the Care line at about 10 p.m. GMT (about 2.30 a.m. IST)

Thank you, machadinha, for the useful link to timeanddate.com

And thank you, Dave W for checking the IRCTC website. The Chennai Customer Care number is currently fully engaged but at least I got the recorded message to that effect and will try later; if it's handling calls that would normally go to the main number (in Delhi ?) it's bound to be busy.
