Have got a OTP from irctc on existing account entered it, a window opened up to enter mobile verification code, put mobile number but cannot go on any further.
The same happened to me with new irctc account with new username and new email id with new OTP.
Have sent many letters with no luck they keep on repeating themselves.
As to phoning have to put in at least $15-20 in Skype or similar.
Any suggestions?

The other option is to phone irctc on +9111 393 40000. This worked for me in December but that was before the need to synch Cleartrip accounts. If you google " Cheap phone calls to India" there are various options for low cost calling from the UK.
I rang this number last night about 10pm UK time (from my landline so I dread to think what my phone bill will look like next month!). The number was answered quickly and the man I spoke to found my email and acknowledged that my passports scans etc were all present and correct. He said that he would mark my email as priority and I should receive the SMS OTP within 24-48 hours. 6 hours later....I received the code!!

I have now sent a second email asking for the SMS OTP so I can integrate with Cleartip and hopefully start booking!!! I will ring again tonight to check they have received my latest email and hopefully they can put it on some kind of priority list again. I think following up an email with a call just makes them more aware of the urgency of your request is a good idea and it seems to get pushed through quicker.

All said.....I haven't recieved the second code yet so it could still all go wrong!

Just to note, the call was answered very quickly (no waiting in a queue, just rang three times then straight through to a real person) and must have lasted no longer than 3-4 min....so surely can't have cost me too much?!

If you have received the SMS OTP then it looks like the original E-mail OTP that is missing. This comes on an email from irctc headed "Succesful Registration". Apologies if this seems a bit obvious but have you checked your Spam box in case it has been diverted there?

I am amazed that they answered the phone at 3.00 a.m. Indian time but your phone experience sounds the same as mine - a match winner.
The inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.

Hey again,

The issue, or one of them was that after managing to get both a cleartrip account... the easy one, and a IRCTC account. Somewhat trickier! I was having quite a few issues when attempting to get tickets through cleartrip. The issue was that the two accounts needed to be linked or else you get put through to the IRCTC registration page again.

The FAQ were unable to get me the right information, but following a link from cleartrip forum helped and got me to this link http://www.cleartrip.com/trains/irctc/account/activate

This enabled me to link IRCTC and cleartrip and now I can proceed to view and buy tickets (through cleartrip) with a foreign credit card*

*I have not actually tested it so far as bought tickets as I am waiting for new card to arrive, long story.

Although I see no real reason at this stage why it shouldn't as long as your card as got that verified safe thingy activated A little help with real wording?
That's VerifiedbyVisa or Securecode

After waiting two days for a response for my request of the SMS OTP to integrate my cleartrip account with my IRCTC account, I again decided to give them a call. Rang 10am UK time, again spoke to a lovely lady who said she would look into it immediately and I should expect an email within 24 hours. 3 hours later...I had the SMS OTP!!

From signing up to IRCTC to having a fully integrated account with cleartrip took me about 6 days in total. (I have just booked my first train aswell so I know that it is all working properly). I seem very lucky to have had a smooth process with this but wanted to post my sucess story to give some of you some hope!! I was very worried this time last week when I read all of the horror stories on this thread and was convinced my trip in August was going to be ruined.

My advice would be - I signed up for a new email account just for the purpose of getting this sorted. I had attempted to sign up with my normal email account a few times and before I realised the problem so thought it would be easier to get a new email account and new login so there was no confusion with which account or SMS OTP I was requesting.

- Keep your email short and to the point. Bullet point all important info (IRCTC login, cleartrip login, email OTP, the mobile number you registered with etc) and attach scanned copies of you passport as a PDF file straight away (don't wait until they request them)

-ALWAYS follow up your email with a phone call - it might cozt a few quid but gets results quickly. Both times I have rung, given them my ticket number that was sent via email, they have confirmed they are looking into the matter as a priority and within hours I have recieved the info requested!!

Good Luck!

I couldn't agree more.

If you are with BT your calls cost you a maximum of 29.2p per minute plus 13.9 p per call set up charge - so not too drastic.

At long last

Well seems I can also report good news- have a IRCTC and Cleartrip account and did a trial booking via Cleartrip.
My original account is still not active after around 30 emails to IRCTC
So I also started new account with different user name and different Email address,it took around a week with only a few Emails to sort things out.
Get the impression that if it is not something straight forward then things start to get out of control and it will never end, given up on the former account
Thank's to all who gave advice.

Still not able to get into the system

I've had an IRCTC account for many years and have successfully bought many tickets from the US using American Express.
As you all know, when I try to log in now I get a box to add my Mobile and can get no further.
I have been sending my passport scan and the following letter every day or so for 2-3 weeks with no reply.
Please let me know what I ought to do. Must I call them as some have done? Must I open a new account?
I'm also a little confused as to whether I need to go through Cleartrip or not. If I'm using American Express, why would i need to go through Cleartrip when I'm comfortable with the IRCTC website?
My letter( which I send to both the care@ and wsop@ addresses):

Dear Sir or Madam,
I have had an IRCTC account for many years.
I am in the US and wish to purchase e-tickets using American Express as I always have
My Irctc account is worldmuse.
Please send me my One Time Password or Mobile Verification Code so I can log in.
I have attached a copy of my Passport.
Please let me know if I have sent you my passport scan in the correct format. (I have sent it as a JPG)

If you have Amex you only need to register with irctc. My suggestion would be to call them. It worked for me and recently for another poster. If that doesn't work look at starting fresh with a new account.

Worldofmuse - I can only suggest to you to open up a new email address and new user name and follow "The man in seat 61" I now have both IRCTC & Cleartrip accounts.I have sent more than 30 Emails as had the same problem with existing IRCTC account,as yet still with no success (look at your favorite quote)For me phoning is expensive.I do intend to get a Amex card in the future so can book direct with IRCTC.After you open new account try and make a booking and see if it goes through.
Good Luck

So I called and......

So I just called.
From the US, for your information, the number is 011 91 11 393 40000.
It went through right away. Hope is rising. It is 7:15 AM EST which is 4:45 PM in Delhi. The woman who answered said said no, I need an Indian mobile # and suggested I use a friend's Indian number. I explained that I thought there was a way around this,by sending a passport scan and getting a One Time Password, but she said no.
So, I think I'll keep calling and hope to get a different person.
Or does anyone want to give me their Indian mobile number, just use on my account form to get into the system?
Continuing to smile and breathe.

If somebody does that it means that they won't be able to open an account for themselves using that number so you might not get too many takers.

I'd try calling later and hoping that you get somebody who knows the score on this.

Just to confirm: The step-by-step instruction on the page: http://www.seat61.com/India.htm works.
The whole operation (including the reply from customer service) took no more than 2 hours and now I've got both IRCTC and cleartrip accounts integrated and active.

Finally successful!

All this is good patience training for a visit to India.
So, I set up a new IRCTC account and made sure I gave all new information. If I gave them any of my phone numbers they already had on file with my other account, that led to error messages.
Then, I did get a reply email, as it was a new account, and I sent them the passport scan and requested the Mobile Verification Code. I resent this request every few days. I got back several error messages saying it didn't go through , but today I did get an email with the code, which I entered as instructed, and and I'm back in the system, and have just booked and printed 2 e-tickets using American Express. Just like the good old days a couple years ago.
Of course the first booking didn't go through twice, even though I first called AMEX to tell them a foreign charge was about to be made. But a few minutes later my phone rang and of course it was them asking if I had attempted a foreign charge. So the 3rd time it went through. A great sigh of relief is spreading outwards towards you..........
