Smoking at Railway Stations - you might be fined!

The following post appeared on the IRFCA eGroup yesterday:

Hello friends;

It seems RPF has stepped up vigil to nab smokers at Railway platforms. Poor smokers!!

My friend got caught today and was fined Rs. 200. He happens to be a regular commuter in ERS-SRR Pass boarding from ERN. He and his friends were having tea at the tea stall when RPF suddenly turned up and fined the entire gang and each had to pay Rs. 200 each. My friend did not have the fine at hand and borrowed it from his friend!!
RPF has cautioned them not to smoke in stations since smoking is banned in public places. Hope the state police does not follow the patriotic RPF.

Jimmy

Notes:
The 'RPF' are the Railway Protection Force, the police of Indian Railways.

The other abbreviations are for station-codes, which I won't bother to translate.

Smoking is now banned on all trains and Indian Railways premises - You have been warned !!

Its also a very silly thing to do

Tim in Ireland - ex smoker (aren't we always the worst )

The RPF is mainly for protecting railway property (and any goods in transit) There is also the Railway Police that is reponsible for law enforcement which, typically, the RPF does not get involved in. But, times might have changed

the funny thing is once you got a traffic ticket in India you would not get anymore tickets for that day. If you were pulled over, you could just waive the previous ticket and cop would let you go. I wonder if that same applies for the smoking tickets

Any anti-smoking measure is a good thing.

Thankfully people don't smoke in eating places here.

Funny that!, i guess it all depends on where you smoke as i was sharing a cigarette with an rpf on a train to gorakphur 9 days ago, granted we where going through madya pradesh at the time!in fact every one seemed to be smoking inside the compartments.

I'm suprised that anyone smokes in India's big cities. A long, deep suck on the inner-city air would provide any smoker with ample dose of poisonous toxins.
