slip source?

The train timetable says that the 9672A goes from Indore to Chittaugarh from 17:50-02:30. Chittaugarh is stop no. 52. But then at stop 63 Chittaugarh is listed as stopping again and it says "slip source'? Does this mean that you change trains at no. 52, or does the train go around in a circle? I'm confused!

It means that the train splits into 2; one part of the train continues as 9672 to Ajmer, the other part of the train becomes 9672A and goes to a different place.

I cant get the Indian Railways website to do anything today, anyone else had this problem?

Anyway, I think 9672A is connected to passenger train 431 and taken to Udaipur to arrive at about 08:10.

When Indian Railways website is working, you will find the number 1 next to every stop until the destination, these are the stations that the main part of the train will be calling at. (In this case 9672 and stations to Ajmer)

Then there will be an additional list of stations with the number 2 next to them; these are the stations the detached part of the train will be calling at. (In this case 9672A and stations to Udaipur)

Sometimes there will be a list of stations with the number 3 next to them; it's the same principal (though the '3rd' train can just be called a 'link' train.)

Thank you. I understand it now. It doesn't even have to say "slip source" - it's just the numbers under the "route no" that matter. Wonderful - suddenly all these trains that I thought were misprints now become possible - opens up a whole range of new itineraries. Really appreciate the response!

You will have an hour and 40 minutes at Chittaurgarh station, hopefully you will be sleeping, but if you go for a walk (I know I would) be careful, your train carriage may get shunted around the station, if you do 'lose' the carriage, look out for the Chittaurgarh - Ahmedabad passenger train (train 431), your carriage will be connected to this train at some point.

5 carriages will be split from train 9672 and added to train 431, 2 of the carriages will be half First Class (non air con) and half 2nd class unreserved, the other 3 carriages will be Sleeper class.

If you wanted to book the train through to Udaipur, you would use the train number 9672A, ‘Reservation from’ would be Indore (if that’s where your starting from), ‘reservation upto’ would be Udaipur.

What is the definition of a "Slip Route". I'm sure the IM railway experts will have an answer as I didn't find one on the indianrail website or anything useful via Google.

I started out by checking whether any Delhi-Bikaner trains use the old metre gauge route which I think I travelled on in 2000.
Still haven't worked that one out either.
