Siliguri to Varanasi

I can't figure out the correct station codes to get from Siliguri (i am coming from Darjeeling) to get to Varanasi.

Hi,

Your boarding station will be New Jalpaiguri (NJP), as there is no broad gauge station at Siliguri. And the destination is Varanasi Jn (BSB).

The following trains ply between the both

Failing that there are also trains running between New Jalpaiguri and Mughal Serai, which is about 15 km out of Varanasi!!

NJP = New Jalpaiguri
BSB = Varanasi
MGS = Mughal Sarrai

The best daily train appears to be ....

2505 (NORTH EAST EXP) NEW JALPAIGURI 16:35, MUGHAL SARAI JN 07:15

But if you're traveling on a thursday or a saturday......

5632 (Guwahati-Jodhpur EXP) NEW JALPAIGURI 18:30 MUGHAL SARAI JN 09:05

Or a Monday....

5636 (DWARKA EXPRESS) NEW JALPAIGURI 18:30 MUGHAL SARAI JN 09:05

All the above trains have 2 + 3 tier air con, and Sleeper class (not air con).

but it looks like all the trains are sold out from sept 21st - on. I am looking to travel around the 23rd.

What do you suggest?

1)just pay some agent when I get to Kolkata in about 1 week.

2) I see that i can waitlist, but I want to get an e-ticket, not an i-ticket.

3) Am am simply out of luck and not have to take the bus or something?

As Durga Puja is 25 Sep onwards, hence the tickets may have sold. Anyhow, this is a busy route and situation remains more or less same.
If you can't reschedule (after 2nd Oct)then try the Tatkal Scheme - It opens three days prior to the journey date and charges a premium fee. Moreover, you have to book for entire length of journey, i.e. if the train originates from Guwahati then you have to reserve from GHY to NDLS and give your boarding station as NJP.
Another option is to get a flight ticket, the nearest Airport is Bagdogra and there are few flights for major cities every day. Have to check for direct flight to Varanasi though

1) Tatkal Tickets will be issued 5 Days in Advance, excluding the day if journey.

2) Tatkal Tickets will be issued only for end-to-end journey.

3) As such, a passenger from one Intermediate Station to Another Intermediate Station will have to pay full Fare applicable to end-to-end journey.

4) By the way, 2435/2435-A is the same train.

I do not know whether any other LCA is operating a Flight from Calcutta to Varanasi.
