What train was it?
It was the 2555 Gorakdam express. It was a complete, normal 2AC carriage.

Thanks, that's good to know, though it may be a while before I use 2A again.

Once again I failed to get a 1st AC ticket on Indian Railways(Unsucessful attempts in 2001/2003 and 2005) so much for my dream to travel in 1st AC and this thread....
I had my friend to go to Railway Station exactly before 90 days, but was told that 1st AC was booked as soon as booking started. I've secured the seats in 2nd AC for timebeing. Since train starts from Jammu and goes through Delhi to Ajmer...all politician and VIP guests would've gotton reserve quota and that's the explanation my friend got from Railway station.
I'll still try on the day I board the train and cross my fingers. Hopefully someone will cancel his/her resrvation.

Wow, 1AC tickets book out that fast?!

I was trying to book it online. Our travel dates are in September, booking hasn't started yet. Should we try with a travel agent? Is it easier to get what you want that way?

Surprised to see the 1ac tickets booking fast. Maybe there was a reason a bunch of beauraucrats or politicians was travelling..

I wouldn't bother with a travel agent. Book well in advance though.

If you're not going to Delhi(Capital of India)or going through it, chances are high as it'll avoid manipulation by beuracrats and politicians. All my unsuccessful attempts had a common factor - Delhi.

From my travels in 1AC all the showers have been in the toilet. I thought the whole arrangement rather unappetizing really - the shower water goes over the floor and drains onto the railway tracks. It's in the Indian toilet room - and you virtually have to stand over the toilet. It's a confined space, don't think it would be great with the train lurching around...

That's ok, Nick. You have enough work to do around here so I deputized myself to become a sub-sub-moderator/associate and fulfilled your comical duties.

That's like all the products that advertise themselves as "new and improved". What were they before? "Old and crappy"?
