Seat and Berth information on India trains?
Quote:
Thanks for the reply. Some of the seating diagrams on this site show number 43 and 44 inside and number 45 and 46 to be on the side in 2A. Since we are travelling as a family, I would prefer that they be all inside so that we could close the curtain for some privacy. Are the seating arrangements in 2A different in Rajdhani and other trains???

Hello JagguDada
I think the diagrams you are refering to are the following ones....

I'm about 90% sure that the 2nd diagram was the layout on the Mumbai Rajdhani, and that uses the same type of German carriage as the Aug Kranti Rajdhani.
If this is true, you'll have 3 inside berths (2 lower, 1 upper) plus 1 side lower berth opposite the inside berths.
This would mean that you'll have the 4 inside berth seats because each lower berth is also 2 seats.

45 and 46 had a disagreement and refuse to be together.
Seriously, It's to allow space for the air conditioning units I think.

And also.....I expect to be, and should be questioned.
I am only one member of indiamike, and I think my word is mostly viewed too highly, I do get things wrong and I make many mistakes, and I'm glad I do, it's kind of nice being human.

That is hardly surprising. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say you and vsp know more about Indian Railways than anyone else, most IM'ers know.
Thank you both Steven and LilBoy. I will be reaching Mumbai one month before my travel date on the Rajdhani. maybe I will just go one day to Mumbai central station get me a platform ticket and check it out by myself. I just love hanging around railway stations enjoying the sights and the smell. Also I came across another diagram at www.erail.in/rail/help/seats.htm On this diagram 43,44,45 and 46 are all inside and 47,48 are outside. Now I am totally confused.

Don't be confused, I think erail is the most user friendly rail seach website by far, but their berth location diagrams are wrong, there are only 46 berths in 2-tier air con.

I love the railway stations as well, there's just so much life there, and despite knowing where almost every train goes to in India, I still think "wow, that train's going all the way to Assam/Jammu/Kerala".I had the most amazing few hours around Mumbai Central station on my last trip, my search for a reasonably priced hotel (that accepts foreigners) and my refusal to get a taxi, led me to being robbed by ladyboys and sleeping on the pavement outside Mumbai Central station, I still laugh about it today.

Yes, I tend to group all cross-gender's together and call them ladyboys, it's sort of an affectionate term, as I always find they're great fun and generally a good laugh, and my experience in Mumbai doesn't change my opinion at all.

Hi,
There is a website where you can check whether the seats alloted are on the same side or different side. Once you open the link you will find an option below named "Seats". Just click and check which seats have been alloted. Hope this info is useful to you.
www.erail.in
thanks and take care

##I have seen one 2A Coach in the rake of 2724 on 1.6.2009 in Secunderabad Station which has got 48 Berths. By the way, 2723/2724 runs with Three Rakes and it has got Two 2A Coaches.
