Safety of having rail tickets sent to hotel?
I have three night trains that I wish to take. I decided I will probably have an agency in India book things for me. I've learned some about the rail system on online reservation system but seems worth paying a small fee to have it done by a "professional".
Am I correct that such places would want to send the confirmed reservations to me by email but that they would also need to send paperwork to a hotel in India? I have not yet booked things in Udaipur but a consistently recommended place in an excellent location that is also inexpensive only has this address shown in Hotel review section: Lalghat Guest House 33 Lal Ghat Behind Jagdish Temple Udaipur-313001 It has been 20 years since I was last in India and I had some very amazing and positive experiences with the postal system, yet the above address seems somewhat incomplete? I have yet to get them on the phone to make a reservation and will ask for a more complete address if that is needed. Also is it safe to have tickets sent to a hotel? It sames that for many people in India the tickets would be valuable and the possiblity of them "disappearing" or not being delivered to me is a concern. I realize that the ticket has my name on it etc. so it would take some work to make it sellable to others. Just want to make sure that I am not setting myself up for a poor experience sending tickets to an inexpensive guesthouse. I am generally trusting, but also don't want to be naive about India. Thanks for any advice. Edward P.S. I have emailed request of cost of ticket purchase to several places and await reply. If someone has a reliable place please PM me. |

Thanks for quick response and I may do that. But since some have found irtc online booking system to require a bit of learning and some have taken hours of work to do their reservation I thought I might not do that and pay a small fee for an agency to do it. Therefore some kind of snail mail is required as I understand it. Bookings would be for early January to end of January.

There are agents who will take little money (like 100 Rs per ticket) and book ticket on your name.
Since you are not there I am not sure how its going to work since you can't pay them in cash. |
