Rishikesh to Dharamsala, advice

Hello, I am currently in Rishikesh. I need to get to Dharamsala on Feb. 6th. Does anyone know the most convenient/cheapest/comfortable ways of getting from door to door? All comments would be much appreciated, thanks!

I know a great way if you were doing it in the other direction.

Hi Steve

So what would that be? I'm interested in Dharamshala to Rishikesh. As far as I know, the only way to do it by train would involve a detour via Delhi. But I don't know very far :-)

I am doing this trip in November ..

overnight train : Saharanpur - Chakki bank on Jammu Tawi express
2140hrs to 0527hrs.

Then a car/taxi from Chakki Bank - Dharamsala 115km approx 2.5 hrs drive

Not sure if its the best or easiest way to do it though

Get a bus from Dharamsala to Pathankot, then get to Chakki Bank station (not Pathankot station, CB station is about 3-4kms from P station) then get the following train.

Train 4610 departs Chakki Bank daily at 20:30 and gets to Rishikesh at 08:00 (2A, 3A, SL)

If the thought of a bus trip gets your head spinning, your legs wobbling, and gives you cold sweats and palpititions, you could get a train from Kangra (16kms from Dharamsala) to Pathankot station, but this will take longer than the bus.

Kangra-Pathankot trains.

That train also calls at Roorkee at 20.22, Roorkee is less than 30kms from Haridwar.

115kms - 2.5 hours, I don't know how much of the road will be in the hills, but 25-30 kms in an hour is all that can be managed in the hills.

You can get direct buses to Dharamsala from Haridwar. OR other way is travel by train upto Chakki bank, pathankott and from there take a taxi/bus upto Dharamsala.
