reserve upon cancellation
reserve upon cancellation
I recently booked my train tickets from Delhi to Madgaon through the IRCTC site and unfortunately for the way there I was given RAC slots 1,2,3. I was just wondering what is the difference between this and wait list, which one is better. Also what is the chance of me actually getting a seat on that train. For the way back already there is over twenty people on the waiting list so is it worth my time to book the three tickets anyway, is there any chance that twenty people will not show up. please help me out.. thanks a lot in advance, peace

Don't worry.. you have secured berths for your journey. With RAC status you are allowed to enter the reserved coach. Worst if the ticket is not confirmed you'll have to share a berth. These are usually side berths where the berth is foldable and two people can sit comfortably. RAC 1 - 3 should'nt be a problem.. it gets confirmed.
Taking a chance with waitlisted ticket could be dicey though.. Still if you have reserved the sleeper class there are high chances of confirmation as compared to Aircon class where the no of berths available is less.

I apologize. I know that similar questions have been rehashed all over this forum but I can't make sense of W/L and RAC.
We have 2 tickets (Mumbai/Varanasi) RAC 3 & 4 that have been delivered to our hotel. The train leaves in about 2 weeks, I booked 2 weeks ago. We have side berths.
I know that we'll get on the train for our trip. The departure is at noon so I imagine people will be getting off before evening. However, will we each get a berth to sleep for the night?
Thanks

If you are RAC 3 & 4, it means you'll get confirmed berths should four people cancel their tickets. And with still two weeks to go, you have a very good chance.Assuming the worst - that your status remains RAC at the time of departure - you'll still be allowed to board your coach and travel, sitting. You'll then be assigned berths during the journey, as and when they become available.

The devil are the many touts you'll encounter in India and who'll pester you no end!!
Don't worry about them though, its their job ! Reservation Cancellation
Sir I just cancelled an RLWL e-ticket from IRCTC site of SL class from Solapur to Thane of Chennai Exp two days before the date of journey.
The amount paid was Rs836 while the amount refunded was Rs736
How is this possible?
I mean WL tickets should not have any cancellation charges
Straightaway Rs90 was deducted!!!
Kindly Explain the reason for this

It has already been clarified in response to some of your previous questions that WL tickets when cancelled attract a clerkage charge of Rs 20 per passenger. I assume there were at least four people on your ticket (for the fare to be Rs 836 in SL from Solapur to Thane) so you should have lost Rs 80 as clerkage charges. IRCTC's service charges are Rs 10 and these are not refunded either. Similar Threads
