regarding NDLS-Haridwar Shatabdi

We, a small group of 4, will be arriving New Delhi(NDLS) by NDLS-HWH Duronto Express on 20th Oct'12 morning (scheduled arrival at 06:05 AM). We want to go to Haridwar and that's why thought train would be the best option. And can found NDLS-Haridwar Shatabdi (scheduled departure at 6:50 AM) a good train for that.

But, before booking any ticket just getting nervous if there is any chance of getting late to reach New Delhi (yes, I know anything can happen and we can't predict that beforehand)....but just getting curious if there are any reports of Duronto getting late very much so that there may be a chance to miss connecting Shatabdi. Since, it's a Rajdhani type train, that's why expecting it to be on time.

So, anyone please have any info regarding this? Is it'll be safe enough to book the tickets for Shatabdi?

Thanking you all.

i would not suggest such a short gap. if you miss it & go to meet any rly official for help, they will laugh like hyenas
though duranto/rajdhani get preference to cover up the gap, at the final leg, you may expect upto 1 hr delay, just to get the right platform assigned.
even if it reaches on time, NDLS is big & crowded enough that you'll raise your BP by the time you get on the other train...

Worth a try. Should be able to make this happen even with 15-20 mins delay in your first train.

thanks @paramiyer and @gaurav1441 for your valuable inputs

since, will be travelling with family & elderly ones, it is preferred not to take any chances...after all it's Indian Railways .

so, if I take the bus route (yes, I've watched no. of posts here regarding Delhi-Haridwar bus service), I've few more queries plz.

[1] are those buses nowadays plying from Kashmeri Gate ISBT (or Anand Vihar)? Sorry if I spelled them wrong, but, just asking because got the info from few earlier posts that there was some renovations going on Kashmeri Gate ISBT.

[2] From New Delhi Railway station, will it be a easier one to catch a metro (never had any experience with Delhi Metro, but, thinking it can be easier & comfortable one from that of a cab...obviously from economical point of view too )? If yes then how far the nearest metro station is, from NDLS rail station?

[3] Now, for the buses...can you please suggest if there are any A/C or volvo service available from ISBT (yes, I already have the info that, the private buses are not at all the dependable at all)? All I want a bit comfortable travel (that's why opting for A/c or volvo) as I came to know this'll be a 5+ hrs. journey.

Thanks again.

[2] NDLS is also a metro stop. You need to come out to Ajmeri Gate side & will see the Metro Station right outside. If you come out of the right exit, it should be 2-3 mins walk.

BTW, there is a jan-shatabdi in the afternoon (1525hrs), so if you want to take a spin around delhi & come back, this might be a decent option...

1) Still from Anand Vihar.

2) You'll have to change at Rajiv Chauk for AV. If you have a lot of luggage you're better off hiring a taxi.

3) Just go inside the terminus and look for buses of Uttarakhand Transport Corporation. There are Volvo, other a/c, and ordinary buses.

Well my dear friend, I wouldn't suggest a minute that after you alight from the Howrah-New Delhi Duronto at around 6.15 am, you rush to catch the 12017 Dehradun Shatabdi. It would be foolish of you for sure, when you have credible alternates.
You can always catch the 12055 Dehradun Janshatabdi Departure Ex-NDLS at 15.25 hours Arrival Haridwar Jn 19.30 hours.Alternately, you can also board the 14041 Mussoorie Express Departure Ex-DLI (Old Delhi Rly Stn) 21.55 hours Arrival Haridwar Jn 05.50 hours. And if you intend some sight-seeing in Delhi and possibly the evening sound-and-light-show at the Red Fort, you can then catch the 12205 Dehradun AC Express Departure Ex-NDLS 23.55 hours Arrival Haridwar Jn 04.00 hours.

I dont think the bus option will suit you. Anyway, AFAIK a government run Vovlo of the Uttarkhand Roadways leaves from Anand Vihar Bus Terminal at around 11 am and you must reach there well before time so as to be able to book a seat in the volvo (generally it gets filled-up very quickly). As you are four people and all separate individuals in a group, a better option for you all would be to book an Indica for around Rs. 4000 (i.e., Rs.1000 per person), which would drop you at Haridwar in 5-hours time but charge you the return-fare.

Hope my reply gives you all the best possible options.Haridwar from Delhi is child's play baba. R ki bolbo.
