Ranthambore to Agra train
Ranthambore to Agra train
Hi!
It'll be my first time booking trains in India and have read up info here.
If taking the Haldighati Pass (59811) from Ranthambore at 11:35pm to Agra Fort at 6am, is it a bearable enough journey that a 62-year old can handle? I'm traveling with my mom.
Is this train reliable and probably won't cancel on Dec 30, near New Year's Eve?
If coming from Ranthambore NP, the right station name is Ranthambore, not Sawai Madopur, right?
What other good transport options do 4 people have for traveling from Ranthambore NP to Agra to see the Taj Mahal, then proceeding to Delhi?
Thanks in advance! Appreciate it!

Train 59811 is classed as Passenger which makes it about as slow as it is possible to get on Indian Railways. The timetable shows it as having an average speed of 34 kmph. Your six and a half hour trip will have 28 station stops. The only bookable accommodation on the train is Sleeper class. It leaves its source, Ratlam, 14 hours before it gets to Ranthambore so there is a risk of delay. It sounds perfect for a train nut but seems like it might be a little bit of an ordeal for normal people.
Try looking at trains from Sawai Madhopur (SWM) to Agra. http://indiarailinfo.com/search/806/0/450

Hi Dave,
Thanks. If we use that time to sleep, maybe the slow speed won't be too much trouble? But will the frequent stops make it bothersome? Will it be reasonably clean and comfortable enough to get some sleep?
I looked at the site you recommended. Using an ipad seems restrictive as there was a pop-up recommending using the govt site. But I think I'll manage when I get home using a PC.

Official website has uninamously blocked every website from accessing the data (Which they think belongs solely to them).
Both Indiarailinfo has Chrome and Mozilla extensions which you would need to install in a common PC/Laptop so that you can use any availability related functions seamlessly and smoothly.
However, for IRI there is no such extension for IPAD. They do have an Android Application which is quite workable. You can give it a shot.
Thanks.

Sorry. Somehow I missed your response. I'm not sure that trying to find your berths at around midnight in Sleeper class on a train that has already been running for 14 hours will be a trouble free experience.Cleanliness and comfort are relative terms. I don't know what your expectation is but there is a risk that this train won't meet it.

If using this train, board at Sawai Madhoppur, Ranthambhore is a small station, and getting into a Sleeper Class carriage late at night isn't easy at small stations, the passengers tend to lock the doors from the inside for security.
I note from another thread that you'll be travelling mid-December, Sleeper Class will be cold.

Just avoid Ranthambore, go directly to Sawai Madopur. It is a major junction, and Ranthambore station is a boondock. From Ranthambore to Agra via a car is about 4.5 hours +/- 30 minutes. I gather there is a new route from Agra to Delhi through Noida. If you hired a car with driver you'll could benefit ...maybe ?
