Rajdhani between intermediate stations
Rajdhani between intermediate stations
I am just planning my next trip and it includes a train trip between Kota and Cannanore (Kannur). There is a Rajdhani running on the day I want to travel, coming from Nizzamudin and going to Trivandrum (train no. 4232).
Now I was very much alarmed when I read in the long "Quota"-thread that using a Rajdhani between intermediate stations is not allowed! I tried a dummy booking and of course got "not available". Then I remembered this thread:
http://www.indiamike.com/india/newth...ostthread&f=10
and tried a booking from Nizzamudin to Cannanore, changing the boarding point to Kota. I did not go through with the payment, but it seemed to work fine!
Now does anyone know if I will be ok with this on a Rajdhani? Has anyone actually booked and traveled on a Rajdhani in this way?

I'm sure it will be OK.
The Rajdhani is no different to any other train when it comes to the 'booking from, boarding at' rules.
So it would be good to hear from anyone who's booked from one station and indicated that they'll be boarding at another. (on any train)
Good luck.

Yep, could be done.
Make sure to mention Kota as your boarding station.

last year i have been to west godavari distict (rural part of Andhra Pradesh) to attend for my cousin's wedding. For return journey to B'lore, i booked Prashanti Express From Vijayawada to B'lore, the tickets were in waiting list and no sign of confirmation. The wedding is at Bimavaram which is 3 hour away from Vijayawada. Three days before my return journey, i cancelled the ticket booked for Prashanti Express and enquired the status for another train Sheshadri Express which passes thro' Bhimavaram. The berths for 2A for Sheshadri express from Bhimavaram are already booked and if i book it , my ticket will be in waiting list again. Then i booked for 2A from Rajamundry (it is 100km or so ahead of Bhimavaram) to Bangalore and boarded at Bhimavaram. The starting point is Rajahmundry and the boarding point is Bhimavaram. However, ticket fare was counted from Rajamundra to B'lore ( some Rs80 extra but don remember exactly)even though my boarding point is Bhimavaram. In another instance, i booked for Jaipur - Mysore express, booked 2A from Balarshah (it is in Maharastra state) and boarded the train at Bellampalli (it is in Andhra Pradesh and the diff is around 100km) reserved upto Mysore. i have done this umpteen times.
Had once booked a ticket from chennai to NDLS and boarding from Renigunta.. whcih is about overnight from chennai. This was just beacuse tickets were not available from renigunta. This was about 2 months back.
specifically in the case of tatkal trains where you are neccessaryly reqd to book the ticket from the starting pt to the last point. You can indicate on the ticket the boarding point.

All you have to do it mention when making a reservation that you will be boarding from different station.
I do it all the time on Borada express going to mumbai, boarding at baruch and it does say on ur ticket so make sure to check the ticket.

The original question is not about 'normal' boarding-at rules. It is to do with the statement on this post - http://www.indiamike.com/india/showp...5&postcount=91
This is the passage in question:

That is, will you be allowed to use this rule with a Rajdhani? As Steven says above, it probably is OK in this case - just that you cannot select from/to two intermediate stations with a normal ticket. "After the battle, many new ghosts cry. The solitary old man murmurs in his grief." Du Fu

I couldn't get the link to work in the original post.
As the 'booked ticket' (paid for ticket) will be from Originating Station (Nizamuddin) to Intermediate Station (Cannanore), it will be allowed.
Changing the 'boarding at' station is only to inform the ticket examiner of your boarding point to ensure you're not classed as a 'no show' and your berth given away.

Alright, now we know: that people have traveled with tickets where the "boarding at" station is different from the "booking from" station: this is done to get a reservation when there is no quota left (or available at all) for your "boarding at" station.
Thanks to some very clever folks here we also know that you can have your e-ticket issued in this way.
What we don't know yet, is if this is allowed on a Rajdhani, but we seem to agree that it should be.
I hereby volounteer to try it out, but you'll have to be patient as the trip I am planning will be in Dec / Jan.

I guess most of you specially Steve must be knowing this, Almost all the long distance train have seat quota's for intermediate stations. So the booking which you are doing is from the quota of that intermediate station.. So this is perfectly safe..
Travinfoindia, with all respect, if you read through this thread:
Boarding point change
you might see that this is probably not the case.
(This time the link should work)
And at least on the Rajdhani I want to take there is no quota from Kota to Cannanore. Which of course is why I am prepared to pay the higher rate from Nizamuddin.

OK, I'll try to put it another way.You are buying a ticket for a train, any train, they're all the same when it comes to booking, are you allowed to book a ticket between the 2 stations you want the ticket for?
Kota to Cannanore - no, there is a restriction preventing this, similar restrictions are placed on many trains, though normally it's a minimum distance restriction.
Nizamuddin to Cannanore, yes, there is no restriction for this journey.
So a ticket can be bought for the journey, anything else after that is the same for all tickets/trains, can you change your 'boarding at' station? yes, in the same way you can for any train, as I said above, it's only to let the ticket man know where you'll be boarding.
The fact that you're changing the boarding station at the same time as booking the ticket only confuses the issue, but really they are two seperate actions and should be viewed as such.
Just a thought....
Book Kota to Trivandrum, it will be about the same price.
