I just booked my tickets and checked the PNR status of the first train (VERY IMPORTANT THAT THIS GETS CONFIRMED!!) and it appears to be the following:
Train # 2432 (TRIVNDRM RJDHNI). Date - July 20, Sunday Class - 2A Passenger 1 - RAC 18 Passenger 2 - RAC 19 At the time of booking, we were wait listed at 1 and 2 position... Just for quirks, I looked at the availability charts for a few of the older dates... 1 6- 7-2008 AVAILABLE- 0026 AVAILABLE- 0026 2 8- 7-2008 AVAILABLE- 0044 AVAILABLE- 0074 3 13- 7-2008 WL 32/WL 6 WL 83/WL 20 4 15- 7-2008 WL 24/WL 12 WL 44/WL 18 5 20- 7-2008 WL 17/RAC 20 WL 35/WL 9 and looks like the train had berths available when it departed on those dates? (of course, I could be completely wrong on this estimate!) What are the chances of this getting confirmed?? Train # 2432 (TRIVNDRM RJDHNI). |

Indian Railways never fails to surprise me, I thought there was no RAC in Rajdhanis, never mind.
I'd say your chances are reasonable, or even good, you've already moved a step closer, as RAC19 is now available to anyone buying a ticket today, so you must have moved a bit. Do you understand RAC? (it means you're on the train, but with only a seat, not a berth, but any last minute cancellations or unused quotas will ease the length of the RAC list (then waitlist))

As for now. The railway wants to earn more money. So they keep a lot of seats/berths for booking Tatkal quota (Stat Booking paying Rs. 300 extra/ berth within 5days form the date of dep of the train). I think if you check the avaialbility at Tatkal quota; you will find that a lot of free berths are available. as this is the lean season for travelling so there is a fair chance of your berth (RAC = Reservation Against Cancellation) geting confirmed. And they would be shown confirmed only the day Yo are going to depart.
If you need to get it really confirmed. then by the ticket in Tatkal Quota paying that extra amount. |

Hi,
RAC means that you will be alloted a seat to sit but not yet a berth to sleep. For starters, you will be able to board the train and will not be turned away. The chances that your ticket will get confirmed is in the high 90 percentiles. Primiarliy for five reasons. 1) You stil have a 10 days to travel. Cancellations will definitely happen 2) Rajdhani has more 2 Tier AC composition than any other train (3-4 coaches) 3) Railways generally clear the RAC / WL of long distance travellers as compared to short distance travellers. 4) From a personal travelling expereince, I have seen mostly 2 A tickets getting cleared as compared to 3 Tier or sleeper. 5) You need only 9 cancellations in 2A for your tickets to get confirmed, which is very possible. Ok, even if you dont get those 9 cancellations, then you still will be allocated a seat and then you will require 1-2 cancellation in your coach to get you a berth. This is not difficult at all. Dont ask me how, but trust me. Think you shud not bother and be alright. Cheers Hymz

Thank you all for the replies. The status has moved to RAC 17, 18 now (1 cancellation?).
Steven_ber, Half-God, Hymz, I will keep the status on check, and what is the latest I can buy the tatkal ticket? I think the reservation officer said 5 days before the journey...is that true? |

Tatkal sales start 5 days before travel and of course you can then buy them until they are sold out. Right now 2432 shows 20 tatkal tickets for sale for July 20 in 2A but they are not on sale yet.

Where are you traveling from and to? (it makes a big difference)
I assumed you were traveling from Delhi to Trivandrum, and if this is the case, you really should have little to worry about, when the chart is prepared all berths from unused quotas (too many to mention) will be used to reduce the RAC and waitlist, and it's very likely your RAC will become confirmed. Go to check out the availability again, then look at all the other quotas, Foreign tourist, defence, Lower berth, Tatkal (too early), then there's many other unlisted quotas, all unused quotas will go to bringing down the RAC/Waitlist when the chart is prepared. |

I am travelling on the 20th.
I just checked out the other quotas, they add up to about 30 seats including the tatkal quota. Now, it's RAC 14,15... |

Then there's the other quotas that we can't view, then other cancellations.
But if you're worried, book Tatkal tickets on Tuesday (after 08:00 IST.) |

So, I decided to wait the first day of Tatkal bookings and looks like there is only 3 Tatkal tickets left...
I am currently at RAC 7 and 8, and the trip is on July 20th (Train #2432, Class: 2AC) . What are my chances? I just pulled up the general quota and it looks like this: 1 15- 7-2008 AVAILABLE- 0033 AVAILABLE- 0073 2 20- 7-2008 WL 31/RAC 20 WL 55/WL 16 3 22- 7-2008 WL/AVAILABLE WL 16/WL 4 4 27- 7-2008 RAC 6/RAC 6 WL 3/RAC 13 5 29- 7-2008 AVAILABLE- 0025 WL 13/WL 5 6 3- 8-2008 AVAILABLE- 0035 WL 23/WL 15 Also, it says 33 berths available in Tuesday, 15th (today), does that mean there were actually empty seats in the train?? |

As you seem to go for the whole length of the train's journey anyway, why on earth don't you book Tatkal? Delhi to Trivandrum means a very long trip and Tatkal would guarantee both of you a berth for a comparatively small surcharge....

this suspense is nail-biting...now there is a waiting list for the Tatkal as well, and I am still at RAC 7 and 8. Someone, please cancel your trip!
Question: Would we still get a seat together or chances are low that we get a seat together because we are RAC? |
