RAC ticket?!
Hello there everyone,
I booked a train ticket for December 1st from Mumbai to Madgaon, on the irctc web site a couple of weeks ago, that was RAC 50 something. I've just received an e.mail from them telling me my ticket was now RAC 44. I'll be landing in Mumbai next monday (Nov.28th) and will find the ticket when i get to the hotel. Basically, i 'd like to know what i should do, as i've never experienced that before. What do you reckon my chaces are to get a berth? Thanks a lot in advance! |

For one you can keep checking your status of RAC in the IRCTC webpage, under the pnr section in the left side panel.
Chances are fair and most likely you would be getting the berth only on the date of travel as lot of specially ear marked seats would be released on that day. In worst case you will have to share the bunk with another person and still worser haggle with him encroaching mindlessly into your territory !

RAC (Reserved Against Cancellation) tickets actually get you a seat on the train, though maybe not a berth.
About 4 - 6 berths (depending on class) in most carriages are kept for RAC tickets, each berth = 2 seats, the idea being that you get a seat whilst the train man looks for a berth, this covers last minute cancellations and people who just don't show up for their train. I guess you must be travelling by Sleeper Class. (high number of RAC positions) As Sudheer says, there will be a lot of movement in the last couple of days, hopefully you will get a berth. |

In which Class you have reserved your Ticket? I presume it should be Sleeper Class!!!!! ============= V.Srinivasa Prasad 25.11.2005/11.15 hrs. |

My tickets to Trivandram last weekend remained stubbornly at RAC3 and 4, then went to 1 and 2 the day before, and hit confirmed only on the day of travel.
