The only thing that I could think of, as of now, is rake availability. Could you let us know when was the ticket booked? You mentioned in the first post that it moved from WL1 to RAC.

Even I had checked the pnr - was showing as RAC then. So stumped with that.

Well, it's too late to offer any useful advice, I hope it all worked out well for you, I see your original ticket hasn't been cancelled, hopefully all worked out well.

Feel free to ignore the following rant.

I get so damn frustrated at how Indian people allow Indian Railways to get away with this, I'm a reasonable person, and I accept things can go wrong, and for some reason at the very least 3 carriages were taken out of service, all that I can accept, but what really infuriates me is.......

Even when 'confirmed' passengers (RAC is a confirmed seat) had been moved back to the waitlist, Indian Railways still put Tatkal tickets on sale and took the extra profit that comes from those tickets, many of the Tatkal ticket holders will have been those who previously held RAC tickets, and if they were senior citizens, then they not only would have had to pay the huge Tatkal charges, they also wouldn't be able to get senior citizen discount, meaning they would have had to pay at the very least DOUBLE for the same train journey.

4-5 carriages will have been used for Tatkal, 3 carriages could have accommodated all the RAC passengers, then put the remainder for a temporarily reduced Tatkal limit.

Why do I get so frustrated....the train left Delhi on time, there's not many countries I can think of where the same could happen, and the passengers would allow the train to leave the platform.

All 190+ RAC passengers could have happily arrived at the station knowing they had at least a confirmed seat, only to find out they didn't, it's a disgraceful way to treat your customers.
