1)Tatkal tickets can now only be booked only 1 Day in advance,
2)Waitlist passengers can board train in Non-AC Sleeper Coaches however not guaranteed any seat any rely on mercy of other passengers,
3)Waitlist ticket booked from Internet is liable to be cancelled in case it didn't get confirmed status while the one booked from railway counter will not get cancelled.

Well here is something I came across today. This is about the 12257 Yeshwantpur - Kochuveli Garib Rath (one of my favorite trains) which leaves at 2100 on May 3 (today). When I inquired for the Tatkal status from YPR to KTYM

In this case, I have three doubts:
1. Are there quotas within the Tatkal quota? Because it looks like there are RL type quotas for CBE and ERN. But funnily, the status in GN quota is the same WL for all stations on the route! (1 3- 5-2012 WL 356/WL 25)
2. Can quotas be changed according to the day by the Railways? Because, we see that on later days there seem to be RL quotas for CBE and ERN even in General quota, while today it does not.
(Please note the date discrepancy: It is the same train that leaves from YPR on the 3rd that reaches KTYM on 4th)

3. The total number of CK (tatkal) seats shows 374 between all three station pairs. But how come it got split later (for today's train - question above?)
4. Finally, we have 17 in the WL and 92 available. So after chart prep, we will still have (92-17) 75 CK berths vacant! I guess this will be used to clear RAC of 108 and WL of 25? So in the end everyone who booked a ticket on this train gets a seat I guess?
I would be grateful if anyone could answer these questions? Thanks a Lot!

The GR has a single quota for all stations. What're you're seeing probably was caused like this: Many people booked CK berths upto Coimbatore/Ernakulam/Kottayam from Yesvantpur on this train. However, a corresponding number of people did not book berths onward from Coimbatore/Ernakulam/Kottayam to Kochuveli. Hence, seats are available for these sectors, though the train is full between Yesvantpur and Coimbatore.If there are empty berths (Arising from unutilised Tatkal/Ladies/Senior Citizen/Defence/Foreign Tourist/High Official quotas respectively) they will be released to clear the general/tatkal RAC/Waitlists. Tatkal WLs get priority over the general Waitlist. In this case, if as you say, there are vacancies in the Tatkal Quota, they will be released to clear general RAC/WL.

Any Chance I Can Use My Birthday to Get a "Pity" Seat?
The article is amazing and daunting all at once. However, I wonder about this: I have WL-1 and I'm a senior citizen, according to the railways. I will be traveling on that WL-1 on my birthday (and I'm female). Any chance I can wheedle my way on the train? Thanks!

Hi, I leave this Friday (hopefully) from Chakki Bank to Delhi on an overnight train that leaves (I think) circa ten p.m. and I'm WL-1 for 1A class. I understand that the chart doesn't get made until 4 hours before the train leaves that station, but that's hard when the train station is a 2 1/2 hour cab ride. Any thoughts on the likelihood I'll turn that WL-1 into something like first class?

There are trains with 1AC from Chakki Bank to Delhi (or New Delhi) at 20.05 , 21.30 , 22.25 and 23.05 .

Hi, it's the Uttar S. Kranti, # 12446, and actually, I can't find right now what time it leaves. (I know, I know, it's rather basic, but I seem to recall at 22:00 or thereabouts, and I plan on getting there at 20:00 at the latest. Frankly, I can't find where to find the time it leaves at in the system.)

Your train has a full 1AC coach rather than a half one which should improve your chances a little. Unless somebody who is already confirmed cancels you will not know the definite outcome until charting.

There is no 2 AC Women's car. The Only womens car that trains have is half an Unreserved coach near the Guard's cabin at the end of the train.
