Hi Steven,

Thanks so much for the prompt reply. Will most likely to be traveling 2nd May and not open for booking yet hence will miss the Jan 1 cutoff date.

Sigh...

I'll get back to you in a couple of days, I just need to clarify a few things, I shouldn't have said anything until I was 100% certain, but the person I got the info from is reliable and very much in the know, and as you can see, it makes me angry.

Any idea how to purchase e-tickets without an Indian mobile number? Is it possible? Thanks so much.
Cleartrip will ask you for a phone number but gives you the option to input a landline number. I entered my UK number in international format (+4415xx8xxxxx) and it worked fine. You will see a message saying that you won't get SMS updates but you can manage without.
You need to warn your credit card provider that you will be using it for Indian transactions and have the additional on line security feature active. (Sorry can't remember what Mastercard call it.)
The inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.

RAC- which birth will I get?

Can anyone here help me on this?

My family including me has confirme tickets in 2A coatch. one of my female friend booked the ticket for the same journey (same class) at a later date and as of now status is RAC1.

The birth alloted to me A1-13. I would be cancelling my ticket (only mine and not other family members) now. I assume my friend's status RAC-1 will imemdiately get updated to CONFIRM then.

My friend is interested to know if , once I cancell my ticket, will she get the same birth (A1-13)? ( so that she can be in company of my otehr family members).

And will the birth number start getting displayed immediately for her in PNR enquiry page or does she have to wait till the chart is prepared?

Thanks

She'd most likely get your berth, unless your berth was allocated through the 'Lower Berth quota'.

What is your age? and her age?

But she wont find out her berth number till chart is prepared, although I have seen exceptions to this rule.

Dear @delhimurlidhar,

I am a big fan of you for the kind of knowledge that you have given to me on RAC & Waitlisted tickets. And to be honest i have joined this forum just to know more about all this.....

Here is the question.

I have booked 2 tickets for Howrah from Secundrabad in Falaknuma train in sleeper class. I booked one of the tickets online a few days back. The waiting was 152. As on date it is 102. Today i went to the railway station to book another ticket in the same train (No TATKAL) and have waiting no 192. I have done this only to make sure that i can travel as the online ticket will get automatically cancelled. What should i do?? should i wait for the online ticket to get cancelled during chart preparation or should i just cancel it now. what to do in case my both the tickets gets cancelled.

Sir,

##Hope I can answer your query.

##Please retain both the tickets till the date of journey.

##May I know the Date of journey?

##By the way, there is a separate thread to raise "Waiting List queries" in this Forum. Perhaps, you may kindly repeat your query there.

Use any of the other gateways (credit card). If you are using a debit card, unless the server of the Bank starts working you won't be able to do anything. Yes, It often happens that a Bank goes off the list, and then comes back again on the IRCTC list. This has some technical aspects, hence this variance for DEBIT cards.

For credit cards, you can use any of the gateways given on top of the payment page.

good wishes.

Hi Steve

I have booked tickets for my family of 4 members for a night train.
Only 3 members (aged 23,67,59) have got confirmed tickets in the S10 coach. But one member aged 32 has got an RAC1/RAC1 ticket. So if anyone cancels a ticket will this member get a berth in the same coach S10?

Please let me know regarding this?

Thanks,
Ayesha

What is the position today ? IT must be showing CNF I think; Even if it is showing CNF or not, it is perhaps possible or not possible. This is because the allocation of berths in S10 would depend upon many factors, beyond description if I need to keep it short. Mostly it should be in the coach which first shows a cancellation and accordingly RAC 1 may (MAY) get that. HOWEVER, it is likely that at the time of charting, rpt at the time of charting, the person would see the other members of the group in S10 and provided there is a vacancy (it normally happens), then you would be all together, except that the present RAC may get a different seating position in the same coach.

If the above does not happen, you can request a single person travelling with you in S10 to exchange berths with the current person having RAC1 getting a confirmed berth in another coach.

Good wishes.

##The chances are very very remote. In other words, this is not guaranteed, because there are 10 Sleeper Coaches!!!

I read the article, RAC would mean berth sharing according to the article. However, If a side berth is alloted to 2 RAC passengers, one of them can sleep above right??
