Well that would depend upon your waitlist status, train, date of journey and originating and destination stations. Without those details it will be difficult to give a concrete answer. It is quite possible that if you waitlist is low, and both, as you say are on the same ticket, if one gets confirmed, the other can still be on waitlist/RAC. In this case, in the final chart, both the names would appear in the following manner:
1. Both waitlisted: names would be dropped from the waitlist if booked through internet automatically when chart is prepared and refunded to your payment gateway.
2. One is RAC and other waitlisted. Both names would appear in the chart with the RAC person being allocated a 'seat" and the other person MAY be allowed to travel by the TTE. If however the Waitlisted person does not want to travel, then BEFORE chart preparation the waitlisted person's name should be cancelled through the internet if booked through it/or at the counter if bought at counter.
3. If one is confirmed and the other is not, both names would appear in the Chart as in (2) above, and the other person MAY be permitted to travel, provided the confirmed person is willing to 'adjust' his berth with the non confirmed passenger.
I hope this helps..
Good luck and good wishes.

Thank you very much for your reply but I don't fully get it; maybe due to my poor understanding.
As you mentioned in no. 2, if 1 get RAC(meaning he is IN) the other MAY be allowed to travel.
In other words the other may NOT be allowed. In this case can the one with RAC reject it for a FULL refund ? It don't make sense for 2 persons travelling together and having booked together be "splt" along the way.

Sir,##When a RAC/WL Ticket is cancelled an amount of Rs.20/- per Head will be deducted from out of the amount paid, provided further that such ticket is still in RAC/WL even after Charting.

RAC how do you apply
Hi
I am currently trying to book a train ticket for next Tuesday with clear trip which i find extremely easy to use but it keeps coming up Could not get current availability, please try again later. ahhhh. Is there any other way i can book RAC as i'm assumeing the train is full up when it says the above? basically that is the only day we can travel and I'm assuming if we can't get on a train then we need to hire a car service which I hear is very easy to do.
any help would be most appreciated
thanks

You should try the direct route and that is www.irctc.co.in ! Register yourself with name, password and other details and use its form under Plan my travel. When you fill in the journey details, you can click on Find trains, and choose the one you want, and then click on Availability. That will show you the position AT THAT time...If you are desperate to travel on a particular date, then you can try TATKAL which is two days before the date of travel, and that too is possible from the website I mentioned. But you need to login sharp at 0800 hrs IST and try your luck.
Good wishes.

As for getting an RAC ticket, it's not possible to book RAC tickets. RAC comes into play automatically if you are waitlisted. As the confirmed passengers cancel, your number on the waitlist reduces till the time chart is prepared. Then comes into play various quotas which are allocated. If there is a vacancy, the Waitlist will hopefully go into RAC, depending upon various factors.
There is NO direct route for RAC ticket, unless at the time of booking Availability shows RAC.
Good wishes.
Authorization to board the train-
1)passengers with confirmed e tikit r permitted to board the train.their names will appear on the chart.
2)names of the passengers with partially waitlisted/confirmed/rac will appear on the chart(including the waitlisted passengers ).

In your point Number Two, I would like to add that RAC passengers also get an allocated 'seat' and are allowed to board the train and occupy the seat allocated with another RAC passenger. In point No 2 note that partially confirmed passengers may be allowed to adjust their non-confirmed co-passengers (on same PNR) on their berths (This is not valid for Sitting only coaches "2S") in sleepers, subject to the TTE agreement. Generally it has been observed that this is 'allowed' with exceptions.
That is why the partially confirmed tickets are shown in the prepared chart with the non-confirmed passengers on the same PNR.
The passenger/s waitlisted therein have the option to approach the TT to board the train, or ask for a receipt from the TTE saying that on PNR xxxx, xxxx and xxx did not board the train/travel, in order to file TDR to get refund. In case of e-tickets, this has to be done online. In the case of physical tickets (i-tickets) the TDR has to be filed alongwith the original receipt from the TTE. A scanned copy is required for etickets. More about the procedure is given on www.irctc.co.in
Good wishes.

I see you have chosen the WEEKEND to travel.. its early days yet to predict however. But the WEEKEND can SOMETIMES be dicey! You have NOT mentioned the class of journey whether it is sleeper (SL/2S/3AC/2AC/1AC).
If it is SL (shown on your ticket), then I would say yes possible, because there are no festivals at that time, except for it being an weekend. In case is 3AC or 2AC, then it would be a different matter: may come into RAC hopefully.
Having just checked the availability position, I think you will go through if in Sleeper.
Check your PNR closer to the date of travel, say around 7th or 8th. Then you can take a call on whether or not to book Tatkal which in Sleeper has 50 seats allocated for Tatkal. Booking in Tatkal would be 2 days BEFORE date of journey, meaning for you it would be 11th for the onward journey, and 13th for the journey on the 15th November. You can check your PNR status on www.indianrail.gov.in. Click on PNR Status and enter the PNR number and check what is the position then.
Good luck and good wishes.
PS: 14th November is India'a first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's Birthday celebrated as Children's Day! I don't know what effect it may have on travel though.
