question re allocated seat/berth on train
question re allocated seat/berth on train
hi all
i have just finished booking all my train tixs on line and all went well, but when i got the confirmation for the 4707 Jodphur to Mumbai overnight train (Ranakpur Express), it said:
Seat/Berth Coach Status
0046/SL A1 CONFIRMED
0044/UB A1 CONFIRMED
I am unsure what "SL" means....We are travelling in 2A (this is on the top of the confirmation) so it does not refer to sleeper (which is what it normally means) so i am thinking that it means side lower but i thought that was normally referred to as SLB.
Anyone know for sure?
Thanks!!

44 is an upper berth
46 is a side berth
The chart I just looked at had 46 as a side upper berth, yet your ticket seems to indicate a side lower berth, but there are so many variations in train carriages that I would imagine your ticket to be correct.
If you ask other passengers, someone may swap berths with you, but then again, in 2A this is less likely to happen.

Thats the carriage, there will be a number chalked onto a space near the entrance to each carriage, yours will have A1.
Quote:
Yes, A1 is the carriage no. 2AC carriages are normally designated by "A" and 1AC carriages by "H". If its a composite comprising 1AC and 2AC, then the designation is "HA". On the more important mails/expresses, this carriage no. is printed on a square metal plate, which is hung at the top centre of the carriage.Also agree with Steven that 46 in 2AC is a side-upper berth.

Dear Mr.Steven,

""Seat/Berth Coach Status

-------------
@@@Do you get the word ""Confirmed"" when you book the Tickets through Online? In the Bookings made through PRS Centres, we don't get the words CONFIRMED printed on the Ticket for 2A and 3A Tickets!!!!!!
-----
@@@Ofcourse, for IA, only the words CONFIRMED will be printed on the Ticket but not the Berth Position.
==========================
I know, 41 is SL and 42 is SU in 2A, 43 is LB and 44 is UB
---------------
But if 46 is SL, then what about 45? Is it SU? To the best of my knowledge, in 2A COACH, you will never get ODD NUMBER AS UPPER berth.
=========
I welcome to be corrected!!!!!! :-)
