Problem with online booking

Hi, I'm flying to Mumbai in a few days to then travel to Goa for a nice winter holiday. I just attempted to book a train on the Konkan railway using http://www.konkanrailway.com

I filled out a request for a 3 tier ac berth and was taken through to the card payment page where I filled out my details. After clicking on the confirm button I was told that my 'session has timed out' even though I did all this in real time. No great problem in itself but if I try to make the booking again I'm told that I have booked and payed for that journey, even though no money seems to have been taken from my account.

I'm not quite sure how to proceed. Any suggestions?

Thanks
Will

I don't know that site, but the problem is often reported regarding similar railways sites. If you look at the bottom of this page, you'll find a number of similar queries. Each of those will again have a nr. of similar queries at the bottom. Alternatively, you could just search this site.

The "mother" of all threads on this is at http://www.indiamike.com/india/india...s-guide-t4305/ . Hope this helps any.

Yes, however similar problems are reported there, and I wonder if the former is not a subsidiary of it...

Anyway, I never tried, but by all accounts persistence pays off here. Don't use your back-browsing button no matter what you do, is what I hear.

This has been reported a lot lately, at the end of that above "Booking for beginners" thread among them.

Check the time at http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/. I can't be sure but as far as I know a communication failure means just that: There is some sort of communication failure somewhere down the line. Can be instantaneous, temporary or more drastic, you never know. That site is said to be difficult at the best of times.

Close your browser and log on to http://www.irctc.co.in
I had this message a couple of times while booking a ticket right now, on my third attempt I could book.

"unable to retrieve due to communication failure"

This is their internal error, I try couple of times, after that I give it a break of 15 minutes and then try...

It never lasts long..

And again: from all I've read, don't try using the back button. This often doesn't work with forms, the system gets confused and the data will be lost and you can start all over again (having cleaned up first again and all that). (Must I reiterate: I've never been through the whole process of booking on that site. Should give it a try some day I guess.)

ummm...very standard procedure...however not for this problem because its not with your computer its a communication failure between IRCTC and Indian Railway..

Yes. One that's easily overlooked, after some more hair-pulling Restarting modem or comp. may work wonders for that matter. Or pressing the "on" button

Eh? I'm trying to book now (Mumbai to Thivim) using the IRCTC website and when I click 'book ticket' for the Netravati Express route I get this error message -

'The "From" Station you have selected does not exist on the route of the
Train or this station has been deleted. Kindly select your "From" station from the Train route shown below.'

How can Mumbai not exist on this route? What a PITA

it means this train leaves from a different station in mumbai, i.e. you did choose Victoria Station (CST) but the train leaves from Mumbai Central (BCT)
