I booked two 3AC tickets from Bangalore to Ernakulam for my travel on 6th March. The booking status is as follows

Booking Status Current Status
W/L 21 W/L 9
FW/L 2 2W/L 1

What does this FW/L and 2W.L mean ? what are the chances for getting them confirmed ?

The F is most likely an error, you joined the waitlist in positions 21 & 22, but after cancellations you are now WL 9 & 10.

It may be starting to look good, but it all depends on what train you're using.

I never complain when EVERY Indian I meet asks "what country?", because too many times when I meet an Indian online I ask "What Class?"

Knock Knock!!!!

Hi All...

I am having a 3-AC General catagory ticket from Margaon to Bhopal for march 10, 2009 for two persons.my initial position on ticket was WL 2/RAC4//0000 AND WL 3/WL 1//0000. Now on checking for booking new tickets from Margaon to Bhopal on "indianrailway.gov.in" in 3-AC general catagoryon same date, it is showing current status as
WL 20/WL 11....that sounds that a totle of 9 tickets has been cancelled in this catagory....but my PNR enquiry still showing the initial status .....
I am not understanding this behaviour.........Will i get confermation before my journey.....or should i book more tickets in tatkal quota?
Please help me in this regards.

17 additional people have joined the queue behind you (WL4-WL20), and 7 of them have since left the queue, but as those people were behind you in the queue you will move no closer to the front.

This is a difficult one to call as I can't tell how many berths are available for this sector.

However, you do seem to be on the Goa-Delhi general quota, and if that is the case, both tickets will likely become confirmed, and at the very least become RAC.

If it were me, I wouldn't worry, I'd be confident the tickets would become confirmed, if you can easily get to Madgaon today, try talking to the reservation supervisor or a TTE in the station, they will be able to tell you the likelyhood of getting confirmed berths.

The problem is, you need to be ready to book Tatkal tickets at 08:00 in the morning, the tickets will be waitlisted by 08:03, and I'm not 100 sure of Tatkal refund rules.

Sorry I cant be more helpful.

Hello Jiraf

I'm supposed to be getting ready for a job interview, but how can I resist such a humorous post.

However, it's difficult to judge if both your tickets will get confirmed, there seems to be 26 berths for the Bangalore-Cochin sector, and whilst there may be some unused quota to help reduce the waitlist, you need to move 7 places for both persons to get confirmed berths (4 x RAC seats), and this may happen, but it may not.

I've got a suggestion, an alternative, but it's not ideal.

Train 2257 departs Yeshvantpur (5kms from Bangalore station) at 21.00 and gets to Ernakulam Town at 07.50, it has loads of availability in 3-tier air con.

However, this is a Garib Rath train, and the Garib Rath carriages have been re-designed to accommodate more passengers, so the carriages are a little bit crowded, but on the plus side, the cost is reduced by about a third, so this train would cost Rs449 per ticket, half of what you're paying for 2AC.

Another however.....I done an experiment to see how crowded Garib Rath trains feel, I travelled from Delhi to Bangalore in 3A on the Rajdhani, the best India has to offer, I was on the train for 2 nights, then I had a day in Bangalore, then got on the Garib Rath to Kollam to see how it compared, and it wasn't bad, the redesign is good and the train didn't feel much more crowded than the Rajdhani, I enjoyed the journey.

Also, hardly any tickets have been sold for the Garib Rath, there's still 877 available (can this be right VSP?), so it doesn't look like the train will be full.

Avoid Side Middle Berths on the Garib Rath (they won't be used if the train isn't full), make sure you select Lower or Upper berths and not side berths (Mind you, the side berths are the same length, I know, I measured them, I got some real funny looks ).

If you do decide to book on the Garib Rath, don't cancel your 2A ticket, keep them till the 13th and see if there is any movement, but do cancel before the 14th to avoid a large cancellation fee.

Dear Jiraf20,

##The SBC-KCVL and SBC-ERS Quotas are one and the same. So far good.

##But the only hitch is 15th March,2009 is SUNDAY and as such the chances for cancellations are very remote.

##I have a very little hope that they may move into RAC.

Dear Steven,

##It is a perfect information. Please look at this:
....
You Queried For
Train Number Train Name Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Source Station Destination Station Quota Code
2257 KOCHUVELI GR 15-03-2009 YESVANTPUR JN KOCHUVELI GENERAL
S.No. Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Class - 3A
1 15- 3-2009 AVAILABLE- 0871
2 17- 3-2009 AVAILABLE- 0917
3 19- 3-2009 AVAILABLE- 0941
4 22- 3-2009 AVAILABLE- 0941
5 24- 3-2009 AVAILABLE- 0945
6 26- 3-2009 AVAILABLE- 0259
....................

##But 2257 departs from YPR at 21.00 hrs., whereas 6315 departs from SBC at 17.15 hrs. It all depends when the OP wants to arrive in KCVL; and whether he can go to YPR to take 2257!!!

Dear Steven,

The SMBs in GR are NOT inconvenient, because GR is born with SMBs, whereas in other trains they got retrofitted!!!

Those numbers are amazing....and surprising, I know the whole train is 3A, and that there are those numbers of berths on the train, but why so few tickets sold, when I took the train it was full.
