Actually there is one weird thing now, as in AC2 there is just 1 place available and it's 3 of us, I looked at the Rishikesh-Jammu route instead, it says W/L 1, but splitting the route in 2 there are places available:
RISHIKESH-Ambala Cannt: Available 6
Ambala Cannt-JAMMU: Available 108
how comes???

PS: the train stops in Ambala just for 10 minutes, so there is no time to go look for the chart and see where our new berths are allocated...would that be a problem?

@aale: Sorry, I thought it is just you alone. The FTQ won't work as its just 1 seat in SL.
Book them in the split sectors. You will have to change coaches/seats, but you will be getting confirmed seats. You don't need to go check the charts on the platform, you may not need to even get off the train. The TTE's on the train will have charts and will point to your coach.

@tester: RAC 5 and 2 months away. Very likely to get confirmed. Ask if status unchanged/cause for concern closer to travel date.

Hey can anyone please help me out with the details about extra coaches ..
like when do they put extra coaches and on what circumstances or is there any fix schedule for it ?? how would i know about that .. as i want to book some tickets of my guests for november and its on high waiting list .. and am confused about it .. so if someone could help me out ith the details of extra coaches .. ill b obliged .. thanks and regards

Extra coaches are attached to trains where it can be accommodated. Normally 24 coaches can be attached to an engine. So if the train already has 24 coaches then no extra coach will be added.

It also will depend on the availability of an extra coach.

There is no fixed schedule for extra coaches. The zonal railway that runs the train decides on the basis of rush, possibility that the coach will get utilised on the return trip as well, availability of coaches for the speed/route that the train runs and whether the train can take more coaches (those that are 24 coaches can't take any more)

@karbalayi: You have not booked tickets yet. The time you are asking about is Diwali time, probably the most busy time of year and the most unpredictable. Book, then ask because the status on which you get advice won't be the status of your booked ticket.

Closer to Diwali, railways will announce special trains. You could wait for that also.

Please tell me whether my tickets will get confirmed.
