It is covered in this thread. The only card they will take from outside India is American Express.

The details for train 12818 are here

Hi helpful folks,

I have made a booking on 20 May 2012 via Cleartrip for travel for 2 in First AC (1A)

Travel Date: 4 July, 2012

From: New Delhi (NDLS)
To: Jammu Tawi (JAT)

Train No. & Name: 12425/ Jammu Rajdhani

PNR: 2803803447

Quota: General

Status: WL - 5
WL - 6

Please advise chances of this being confirmed from waitlist as may need to think of Plan B, ie., to escape Delhi heat and head for the cooler hills!!

Thank you kindly.

If you are already in Delhi you could book the 2 FTQ (Foreign Tourist Quota) berths available in 1AC on this train.

Hi Dave W,

Thanks for your speedy reply!!!

Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) I am in Melbourne and have been checking the PNR status every day since I booked this trip and it appears there are no cancellations at this stage. Have looked at other trains on that day and they are waitlisted too - that's just what I can see - perhaps that is not the case?

Any guidance, opinions, suggestions - glad to hear.

Thanks again.

As far as I can see this train will have 22 1AC berths. 10 are available for general booking and 2 are reserved for FTQ. The rest are presumably in the Head Office quota. That means that up to 10 more berths might appear at charting 3-4 hours before the train departs. The problem is you won't know until that stage.

Do you have any time at all when you get to Delhi or are you straight on the train. Various trains are showing FTQ availability in 1AC and 2AC. Probably a good chance that you would get something and you could then cancel your WL tickets at relatively little cost.

Hi Dave W,

We arrive the night before and are hoping to leave the next evening on mentioned train. Plan to head straight to NDLS tourist office or wherever list is posted and check ASAP. Am getting nervous as not sure if will this booking will come through.

I thought most other trains on that day (Shatabi?) were also W/L and agree could book another JIC if there are avails.

PS What does FTQ stand for?

Thanks for your help and suggestions. Cheers

FTQ = Foreign Tourist Quota. See my initial response.

This is a special quota that can only be booked by non-Indian passport holders. You have to go in person to an International desk. There is one upstairs on the Paharganj side of NDLS station. Open 0800-2000 Mon-Sat 0800-1400 Sun

The 1 & 2 AC availability I referred to is in FTQ on various trains. Hopefully this link will show you but it doesn't always work.

Thanks David W,

Thanks re FTQ (it is late here....end of the day brain fade)!

The link worked and I had a look at this a few days ago and excuse my ignorance but am not sure exactly what it is revealing - if you can spare some time to shed light on this, I would be grateful.
And wondering what "arp" means - perhaps projecting 30, 60 days ahead?

Thanks again!

Look at the top of the table and you will see that I have entered 4th July and picked Foreign Tourist.

Towards the right hand side there is a series of columns headed classes. Where there is a green box there is availability. Hover your cursor over the box and it will tell you how many berths are available in each class.

ARP is advance reservation period. Since march 2012 this has been 120 days for most trains, previously 90 days and before that 60 days. A few trains still have shorter ARPs.

Thanks Dave W,

There is an avail of 10 seats in 1AC as shown in green but not sure where you see the 22 and breakdown....anyway, would have been wonderful to have booked 120 days beforehand and just missed RAC and earlier W/L bookings by a week or so as it took over a week to get passwords, etc. to be able to use cleartrip.

Have looked at other trains for same date but can't see avails or no. of berths when hover over class. Frustrating to not be able to book FTQ from outside India!

Cheers, D5

The 22 figure comes from the fact that the train has an H1 coach which has 4 x 4 berth cabins and 3 x 2 berth. Some quota is held pack for possible travel by VIPs/MPs/Military. If not used it is released at the time of charting but there is no way of being certain before hand.
