This should also be able to clear some of your other doubts about the class.

With regard to your question of having checked the "book only if all passengers are allotted berths in the same coach" box, this really makes no difference to your reservation.

With regard to your queries themselves, here's what I think:
Your Amritsar-Agra ticket will either get fully confirmed or partially confirmed (for example, 2 passengers getting confirmed tickets in the end, and the other two remaining with wait-listed tickets). But in all probability, seeing that the date of journey is still some distance away, this should be okay.

Both your tickets on the Shiv Ganga Express stand a good chance of getting fully confirmed - remember, this might happen only when the train's chart is prepared, around 4 hours before the train leaves. The other ticket, on the Swatantrata Sainani Express, is much less likely to get fully confirmed.
aloke_m,

Thank you so much for that summary on 1AC. Now I know how to check how many 1AC berths there are. It sounds like there will NOT be more than 24 since there is not more than one 1AC coach per train.

From your description it sounds like everyone must wait until the chart is prepared to find out if their berth is confirmed. Is this correct.

We are on a bit of a tight schedule and I thought if we do not get our train reservations confirmed 24 hours before departure I would cancel and book flights. If charts are generally prepared only 4 hours before this would not be realistic.

QUESTION: When the chart is prepared is the online status also updated? Would I be able to check my PNR status remotely or do I NEED to show up at the train station?

Are seat charts ever prepared BEFORE 4 hours of departure for trains departing in the evening?

Sincerely,
S.

No. You will receive confirmed status immediately upon booking if there is availability but there will be no specific berth allocated to the booking.

The PNR status is updated and you can check this online

Not sure about this but even if it did happen sometimes it would be unwise to rely on it.
The inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.

They are different types of wait lists
GNWL = general wait list
PQWL = pooled quota wait list

In essence, avoiding the nitty gritties, it is very difficult to get a PQWL ticket confirmed as the (a) number of berths allotted to pooled quotas is relatively low and (b) if seats reserved for officials/foreign tourists/parliamentarians are not utilised, these are first offered to clear general and tatkal wait-lists and only if there are seats still left over, to clear pooled quota wait lists.

Hope this isn't too confusing.

Dave responded well to those queries, so I needn't do that again. Perhaps the section on allocation of berths in 1AC in my post was a little confusing. With regard to chart preparation being early, this can only happen in some cases where the train starts its journey long before it reaches the station from where you're boarding. In your cases, as you're boarding from the train's origin, this isn't applicable, so expect the chart to be prepared 2-4 hours prior to departure.

Do not post your query again and again; somebody will respond to it. Also, do post all the necessary details clearly ie

Train Name and Number
Date of Journey
From - to
Class of Travel
WL numbers

rather than merely saying "NZM-TVC rajdhani IInd AC WL", posting your PNR number and expecting us to go to the website and check it up for you.

Anyway, this ticket will in all probability confirm.

Bad. This is a very high WL number and you're travelling peak season too. Even if an extra coach is attached (Which always happens with this train as it's extremely popular), it won't be enough to confirm your ticket. Look at tatkal.

Dear Sir,

I had reserved 2 first class tickets 1-1/2 months back on Shalimar Exp from Jammu to Delhi. I was waitlisted No1 and my co-passenger was WL 2. The status still have not changed.
Please find the details:
Train Name and Number: Shalimar Exp, 14646
Date of Journey: 9th June (i.e. rougly 14 days from now)
From Jammu to Delh1
Class of Travel: First Class
WL numbers: 1 and 2

Since i am going to Delhi on 31st May(amd then to Ladakh-->Jammu-->Delhi) and might not have time to access internet. Do you think it will be wise for me to reserve 2 bus tikets from Jammu to Delhi. Kindly suggest whether I should also cancel my WL tickets. I am going to Ladakh and might not have time to resevre/cancel. Awaiting your earnest reply

Thanks
