Please help me.
I booked a duronto 2AC ticket from Mumbai to New Delhi travel date 28-05-2012. Its current waiting list is 22.
I booked another ticket as a backup in Pachim Express 2AC ticket from Mumbai to New Delhi travel date 26-05-2012. Its waiting list is stuck at 23.
Please tell whether any of these tickets can get confirmed or not.
I shall be highly grateful if you could tell any alternate options for travelling from mumbai to delhi on any date after 25 may.

Hi - I will be traveling with my husband and 2 young boys (age 8 and 6) around the North from June 9 - June 20. I have booked a few overnight trains in 1AC and I am WL1-WL4 on all of them except 1. PNRs are as follows:

I selected the box that asked if I wanted all people on the reservation booked in the same class otherwise reservation would be canceled if this was not available. Was this a good idea? Or does this decrease my chances of no one getting a seat.

I understand that there are very few 1AC berths, but how do I find our exactly how many 1AC berths are planned for each train? Or does this change each day based on demand?

Is June a really bad time for train travel? I have heard it was school holidays; everything seems to be booked up. Can anyone tell me my chances of getting a 1AC berth.

Should I also book 2AC seats on the trains that I want? It appears as if these also only have WL seats available.

I had booked Swaraj Express, New Delhi to Bandra Terminus (Mumbai), travel date 28 May 2012, 1 ticket in 2AC. The current status (as on May 21) is WL18. Any suggestions whether it will get confirmed? The status has remained the same for last 5-6 days.

I don't really want to promote my own articles, but in this case you could read this post on First AC. Halfway down I have detailed a method to find out how many coupes are available on the train you're checking, but this can also be used to find out how many First AC coaches are on the train in the first place - and whether they are full First AC or composite First AC coaches - the latter have less berths. This should also be able to clear some of your other doubts about the class.

With regard to your question of having checked the "book only if all passengers are allotted berths in the same coach" box, this really makes no difference to your reservation.

With regard to your queries themselves, here's what I think:
Your Amritsar-Agra ticket will either get fully confirmed or partially confirmed (for example, 2 passengers getting confirmed tickets in the end, and the other two remaining with wait-listed tickets). But in all probability, seeing that the date of journey is still some distance away, this should be okay.

Both your tickets on the Shiv Ganga Express stand a good chance of getting fully confirmed - remember, this might happen only when the train's chart is prepared, around 4 hours before the train leaves. The other ticket, on the Swatantrata Sainani Express, is much less likely to get fully confirmed.

Both aren't that great, though the ticket on the Duronto is much more likely to get RAC/Confirmed than the one on the Paschim Express. Your ticket status will start changing more rapidly as the date of journey draws close - usually around 4 days before. If it is less than WL5 on the day of journey, you stand a good chance of getting atleast an RAC seat on the train. If it hasn't moved enough, try tatkal.

The Paschim ticket looks hopeless to me.


Again, ticket status changes closer to the date of journey. Wait-lists in 2AC are never very good, and I think this will either remain in the WL or go to RAC. But for your sake, I hope many passengers cancel and prove me wrong!

can anyone tell me that What are my chances of getting a confirmed ticket for 3AC (WL 1 & 2) from Howrah to New Jalpaiguri on 26th of May, 2012 Train No. 15721 train name PAHARIA EXPRESS?

Hey,everyone I was planning to go to Shimla on the 12th of June and I've booked tickets on the Himalayan Queen from Kalka to Shimla and been waitlisted at 28(yes,I know,I know I should've got around to bookings earlier) anyway I was wondering whether anyone had an idea about the chances of getting confirmed tickets? I know that usually higher classes mean lower rates of cancellation,but given that here there is only one class I really cant figure out whether I should start looking at alternatives?

This should confirm. If unlucky, it'll remain RAC, which means you get a seat on the train, if not a berth.


I think you have enough time. This should probably get confirmed by the time this train's chart is prepared. But this is not a sure-shot confirmation case, so if your tickets haven't moved much a couple of days before the journey, you might have to look at buses or other alternatives. (There is an unreserved special train that departs at 12:45 and reaches at 18:10 which you could consider)
