I booked a ticket for the 8th of June in 2nd AC. But i managed to get a waiting list only. Can anyone please shed some light on my chances here?

1. JOURNEY ORIGINATING STATION: Howrah

3. NUMBER & NAME OF THE TRAIN:2860, Gitanjali express
4. DATE OF DEPARTURE: 8th June 2009

This is a tatkal booking.

Also, can anyone tell me the amount refunded if i cancel a e-ticket in tatkal quota which is in waiting list?

Dear Vsp,
In many posts you avoid to book tatkal ticket through online (At 8.00 am when advance booking starts before 5 days).Why?
Is there any risk to do so? I don't think so because I have booked a couple of such tickets using online.Even though if any risk exists then share with us..

##In general, the % of people who get Tatkal tickets between 8.00hrs and 8.30 hrs. is very very less and there is a general complaint, IRCTC is miserably slow during this crucial time; and hence, the people end-up with CKWL Tickets instead of Confirmed.

##Hence, I always advise against attempting to book Tatkal Tickets between 8.00 hrs.-8.30 hrs.

##There are very few people who are very lucky like you.:-)

##In the recent past, the IRCTC has creating problems even for normal bookings. My friend had to forego the amount twice but could not get the tickets. The amount will come back after one or two days, but our purpose is NOT getting served "in time".

I still have the 3AC ticket. But i have taken a ticket for 8th as standby. And the 2AC ticket is in Gitanjali, 2860 and not 2810. It has 18 seats for 2AC. That is why i am holding on. Does this change your assessment?

##We do not know how many of these 18 Passengers would cancel their tickets. In any case, 2860 is preferred to 2810 by many passengers and as such, the chances for cancellations are likely to be very dim!!!!

Just sharing my experience:
My e-ticket was still in waitlist when chart has prepared and got canceled.
Details:
Train - 1078/ jhelum express
Journey date: 05/06/09
Class - 2AC (NEW DELHI to PUNE)
Booking Status: WL-9
Current Status : WL-6 (after chart preparation)

So, my suggesion is not to book a ticket in 2AC in this train if waitlist is more than 2 and you are not too lucky

The only option is to go for Tatkal.Karnataka Exp. has the highest number of births in Tatkal. Will go for that.

##The 2628 which passes through BPL on 14th leaves NZM on 13th. Since you will have to pay NDLS-SBC Fare and take BPL as Boarding Point, you have to attempt for this Tatkal on
