Check your PNR status? Does it shows the coach / berth numbers? I guess it would not show, since you have asked us. Difficult to say if you would be seated together.
yes, it is an e-tkt (apologies for not mentioning earlier) and i had selected the auto upgrade option..... i m only concerned if we could be seated togather.. railways must ensure this !!

I would not put it in the auto upgrade class now. Since you are booked on a single ticket, RAC only means that both of you should be in the same coach. Your berth numbers would be known only charting time. Until then, upgradition is NOT possible. And I have hardly seen very many upgrades... Sorry about this, but my experience speaks.]

Should be allowed by the TTE, generally that is allowed. During the journey when the berth becomes available the person with W/L1will get a chance: This is a tatkal ticket ?

Good luck

MAO to ALLP on May 25 in Sleeper (Netravati Exp #16345). Booked March 8 with WL21 status and now WL16 (as of March 18). Any chance for a confirmation or what other options should I consider for an evening train from Goa to Kerala area on that date or thereabouts?

Question By what time should an unused W/L ticket be canceled?

Hello,

If someone could kindly clear my doubts about the following PNR status:

PNR Number : 620-8247777
Mode of Booking: Reservation counter (not internet)
Train Number: 13351
Train Name: Dhanbad Alappuzha Express
Boarding Date (DD-MM-YYYY): 24-3-2012
From: AJJ (Arakkonam)
To: TCR (Thrissur)
Reserved Upto: TCR (Thrissur)
Boarding Point: AJJ (Arakkonam)
Class: SL

Train originates at Dhanbad on 22-3-2012 at around 10:30 am (PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS 2 DAYS BEFORE THE TRAIN REACHES MY BOARDING STATION).

PNR Status as on 19/3/2012:
Passenger 1 W/L 35,RLGN W/L 26
Passenger 2 W/L 36,RLGN W/L 27
Passenger 3 W/L 37,RLGN W/L 28
Passenger 4 W/L 38,RLGN W/L 29

My questions are:

1) Is there a chance of my W/L advancing to RAC?
2) If PNR status is still W/L at the time of chart preparation on 21/3/2012, can I board the general compartment of the train with the W/L ticket on 24/3/2012?
3) If I want to cancel the W/L ticket, by what time/date maximum (kindly mention the exact time/date) should I surrender it at a railway counter? Is this date/time calculated from the time of chart preparation or is it calculated from the time the train reaches my boarding station? Can I surrender it at my destination station reservation counter or should it be surrendered only at the boarding station counter?

I would be very grateful if someone can help me with this.

Thank you.

HWH/SDH - NJP best options

I'm planning a trip to North Bengal from 27Apr to 2 May...........plan to start 27 Apr night from Kolkata and 2 May night from NJP..............however tickets are hard to come by.........all are waitlisted in 2AC/3AC.........

I'm thinking of buying waitlisted tickets and then try for tatkal quota when time comes.

Which are trains with best chances of confirmation ?

Thanks.

Smile The "Unflickable" Ant

Was kind of disappointed that I didn't get a reply to my post. But thanks to good old Indian Railways, my ticket has been confirmed!!

I have to admit though that I still am confused about when W/L tickets have to be canceled when it is a long-distance train and your boarding station arrives two days after chart preparation.

Off-topic, I saw an ant/bug wandering on my computer monitor. For at least 5 seconds I tried to flick it away. Then I realized to my surprise that the ant had somehow entered inside my monitor screen and though visible on the screen, was "unflickable"! It then took a good amount of time for it to dawn upon me that the ant was in fact Khak's animation profile!!

12903 Golden Temple ML on 15 Apr from Sawai Madhopur to Bharatpur Juntion RLWL 9 AND RLWL10

Bit unfortunate that you did not receive a reply. Good for you to get a CNF.

You can cancel WL tickets any time you want. On tickets booked by you on the internet, you can cancel upto 4 hrs before charting time. If your internet ticket gets Confirmed, then you get some of it back if you want to cancel; If the internet ticket still remains unconfirmed post charting, it gets automatically cancelled, and the money is refunded to whichever mode of payment you used. In the case of tickets booked at counters, you have to present them at any counter near you; the same rules will apply. Part of these rules are given below:
UNUSED WAIT LISTED OR RAC TICKETS :
(1A) Subject to provisions of subrule (2), no cancellation charges shall be payable if a wait-listed or RAC ticket is presented for cancellation up to :

(i) Three hours, when the ticket is for a destination station up to 200 KM.

(ii) Six hours, when the ticket is for a destination station of more than 200 KM but up to 500 KM., and

(iii) Twelve hours , when the ticket is for a destination station of more than 500 KM.,

after the actual departure of the train except for a deduction of a clerkage charge of Rs. 20/- per passenger.

Provided that for night train leaving between 21:00 hours and 06:00 hours (actual departures), refunds shall be admissible at the station within the time limit specified above or within four hours of opening of the reservation office, whichever is later.

(2A) Where confirmed reservation has been provided to RAC or wait-listed ticket holder at any time up to the final preparation of reservation chart, such ticket shall be treated as a reserved ticket and cancellation charges shall be payable in accordance with rules mentioned above.

CANCELLATION CHARGES ON MULTIPLE JOURNEY TICKETS :
With effect from 1st March 2000, when an unused ticket involving more than one journey is surrendered for cancellation, the entire ticket shall be treated as one single journey ticket and refund of fare of entire ticket shall be granted as per rules (1) and (2) above, according to the reservation status of the first lap of journey, i.e. if reservation status of first lap of journey is confirmed, refund shall be granted in accordance with the rule (1) and (2) above and if the reservation status of first lap of journey is RAC/Wait-list, refund shall be granted in accordance with the rule (1A) and (2A) above. The cancellation charges or clerkage charge as the case may be, shall be levied only once on the entire amount of the ticket, irrespective of the reservation status of different laps of journey, and not separately for each lap of journey.

Check this out on indiarail.gov.in and go to rules on the left hand side and hover your mouse on it. It will take you to the right site for a quick glance of these rules.

Good wishes.
