like What was the status when it was booked after which it has now come down to RAC 3-WL 2??

The last one would stay back in RAC.

Here RAC means a berths would have to be shared by two passengers. When any other berth is found empty, TTE would allot any one of you that berth and hence then both of you will have a confirmed berth to sleep.
Else, you would have to share the berth, just to sit, or even to sleep (on mutual agreement and adjustments) from start-end.
