I have booked tickets on Trivand. Rajdhani (2432) on 28th Dec, boarding in NZM and getting down in Goa. For the first time I decided to splurge on 1st AC for the family. We were initially RSWL 3,4,5,6. Now, 12 days before travel, we are waitlisted 1,2,3,4. We are going for a meeting, so if I will not get confirmed, I need to book airline tickets. Please tell me what you think. I travel a lot on 2 and 3 AC, and would not be sweating it. Just concerned about the fewer number of seats on 1AC.
Thanks for any help

Its very difficult to make a correct guess, but I think that since it is the holiday season it might be difficult. If you find that your wait list position is not changing then I would suggest that you book a TATKAL ticket (if the train has that facility) and cancel the existing one after get a confirmed TATKAL booking.

Hi VSP,
Thanks for your reply.
I have resigned to my fate. But would you be knowing what to make of this,
1. When I had booked my ticket a month back, I was PQWL at 92, Now it is down to W/L 82, But at the same time I notice that the first column shows PQWL 112. Why is that? Also,
2. If I check the PNR of my other tickets, it gives me the status, but if I check the PNR of one of my other tickets, (though a week back it showed Confirmed), now whenever I inquire, it says "Facility Not Avbl due to Network Connectivity Failure". Is the train likely to be cancelled or something?

I will repeat once again, I will not be doing any searches or guesswork for anyone whilst I'm in India (till April), EVERYTHING I know is in the following article.

RAC and Waitlists explained.

You should really try to work it out for yourself, there's only member VSP who truly understands how it all works, and there are far too many queries for him to answer.

And one thing's for sure, you will not get a reply from VSP if you don't indicate the class your tickets are booked in.
.
SOS: Missing Person...

Please look at this thread, even if you are not in India.: Have you seen Jonathan Spollen?

He could be anywhere now: You might have met him, be able to help, or give information.

Hi Steve,
Read your article on RAC and WL. In it you had mentioned that trains have RL Quotas. eg. train 4864 has a Jaipur quota, Idgah Agra quota, Varanasi quota etc.
Where can I get this information for the various trains on the Indian Railway? Any site?

Did I word it that bad?

Jaipur and Agra Fort have seperate RL quotas.

You just have to search for availability from each station to other stations and look for the differences in the availability quotas, make sure you search for availability for 90 days ahead.

I know no one is reasearching...

BUT...I have these RAC tickets and we go to India tommorow but the Hampi train these are on isnt until 26th so does it really matter? Is there a need to check the PNR every day?

I am thinking just turn up at the train and check the list and if we are together or not what does it matter, how bad can it be coz RAC 9 & 10 & 11 SL still gets me on the train right?

I think I have finally understood how by checking the availability status 90 days in advance and looking for booking patterns that one can make an educated guess at the likelihood of ones WL's getting confirmed. Thanks you all for your help

I ALWAYS buy RAC tickets (if that's all that is available) even a few days in advance is still OK, just the unsold hidden (unknown) quotas and last minute cancellations are often enough to move the RAC tickets into confirmed tickets, every single time I've bought RAC tickets I've ended up with confirmed berths.

But, Yes, you may be split up, though if all the tickets were bought together (same PNR number), you should all be in the same carriage, then you can just swap seats with other passengers.
