This discussion thread is meant for Waitlist questions for the Indian Railways. If you do not know the meaning of Waitlist for Indian Trains, then please read this article that describes the concepts of Wait Lists (WL) and Reservations Against Cancellation (RAC).

Also, when requesting information on this thread, please post the following details of your travel:
  • Train Number
  • Date of Travel
  • Class of Travel
  • Departure Station
  • Destination Station
  • WL Status at booking
  • WL Status Current

If you know your PNR you can use this site to check your current status. http://www.indianrail.gov.in/pnr_Enq.html

The only person who can tell whether you would get berth for other foor is the TTE. You cannot cancel the tickets now but for claiming refund you would have to file an Online TDR in the left hand meny inside IRCTC. You would get refund after 90 days from date of travel.

I'm surprised you say that, but I guess 'Normally' is the key word here.

I've seen these quotas being used many times before the journey date, here's a few examples.

I'm very keen to learn more about the HO quota, I see HO many times on reservation charts, and mostly next to waitlist numbers higher than which got confirmed.

Why is the HO quota mostly kept for the journey date?

Who controls it and puts people on the HO quota?

Can you think of any other useful info regarding the HO quota?

Thanks VSP.

Hello Cathy

I use www.erail.in mainly, it's an easy website to use and you can check the various quotas using the box on the top right, then clicking on AV alongside your train and class.

There's still 4 berths left in the Foreign Tourist Quota in both 2A ands 3A, so you should be OK. (have you checked your PNR status lately? you can check on erail)

The FTQ (like all quotas) used the same seats or berths that are sold generally, it's no different, if you got a FTQ ticket, you'd be sitting next to (or in the next seats/berths) someone who bought a ticket in the general quota.

Sorry to keep saying seats/berths, but your seat becomes a for night time travel, so it becomes difficult to explain.

Can you give us a link to your article when it's printed?

As a rule, wait lists of specific quotas are cleared against availability in those quotas only. So PQWL would get cleared only if there are cancellations in the pooled quota as a result of which seats become available.

The general quota would be used for clearing PQWL only after GNWL is cleared and there is room available for allocation to other quotas.

##I must have confused between Parliament House Quota and HO Quota.:-)

##If Parliament House Quota can be booked in advance, then the vacancies, if any, will be surrendered to Railways so that they might get allotted to those in CKWL/GNWL like FT/DF/SS.

##An Officer in the Divisional Headquarters/Zonal Headquarters is entrusted with the job of alloting berths from out of HO Quota
only on the day of journey. There are instructions as to how to prioritise the requests for release of berths under HO. The vacancies, if any, will be surrendered to the Charting Staff, who, then will allot them to those in RAC/CKWL/GNWL!!!

Hi,

I got a query : I was keeping an eye on my RAC movement. I read the info explained on this site.

What i came to know is, 2 RAC ticket holders get one berth.

Now, logically, The RAC movement should be done in even number right? like suppose one CNF ticket got cancelled so one RAC ticket holder will get that berth and the remaining berth with which it was shared will be free for the other RAC holder to occupy?

Am i mistaken somewhere?

Not always an even movement should be expected..!!!!If a person above you hold a single RAC ticket and cancels the same the movement would be odd your RAC would move by single number.

As suggested by Mr. Srinivas , I have done some backup plan for the travel by bus but still interested to know the above information.

Thanks is advance.

According to a local, An extra Sleeper Class carriage is added (till Bangalore) on weekends (is that F + Sa or Sa + Su?), Chance of ES2, I've no idea, wouldn't most trains be trying to get an extra carriage to clear the rush, how many extra carriages are there?
