Hi,
I have just now booked a tatkal 2AC e-tkt (Train no.3352) from Allepey to Dhanbad for 9th Jan, which was available initially. But after transaction processing came out to be WL1 . I have a confirmed 3AC tkt for 12th Jan as well but would like to travel on 9th Jan.

Can anyone suggest what are the chances for my 2AC 9th Jan. tatkal ticket to get confirmed ??

Keep your fingers crossed as you are WL1 and any one cancellation can get you into the train...

help - train booking to Haridwar is still waitlisted

Hi guys,

Can anyone advise please?
I booked a second class A/C sleeper from Delhi to Haridwar departing on January 12 for the Kumbh Mela.
Train departs at 20.40 hrs, arriving on the morning of the 13th at about 06.00 hrs. When I booked it was W/L 9, and now it is W/L 4.

What are my chances of getting on the train? I booked it on December 12, so in 26 days only 5 people cancelled - with just 5 days left, I don't think my chances look too good. The current waitlist , if you booked today for the same travel date, is something like w/L38 (because of everyone travelling to the Kumbh mela).

There's a train departing the next day showing availability, but it leaves at 5.50am and arrives about half past midday - and I will be totally wrecked, but there at least.

Should I cut my losses now on my existing ticket, cancel it, and purchase a confirmed place on the 05.50 train the next day? Or take my chances with the existing ticket?

I am a journalist and have to be in Haridwar for the start of the Kumbh mela on January 14 for an article I've been asked to write by a national British newspaper (and no, they won't pay to fly me there because they are tight-arses!)

Many thanks!
Cathy

I thought Kumbh mela was in April!
Have you tried for shatabdi express and jan shatabdi express for hardwar. These have ac chair car seats and one leaves in morning and other in afternoon. Getting a booking on these trains is generally easier.
However if u cant get a train, there are numerous buses and some ac buses also to hardwar from Kashmere Gate ISBT. Also some buses for Dehradun would go via Hardwar. Even if not, the Dehradun buses will drop you at Roorkee which is 30Kms before Hardwar. From there you can get plenty of local transport.

Well I think the train you are alluding to is 4041 Mussoorie express which leave Old Delhi railway station at about 22.20 and reaches Haridwar at 5.52 AM.

There are seats available on this train in Foreign Tourist Quota in all the classes so if you are in Delhi you can go over to New Delhi railway station special booking counter for Foreign Quota (Search this forum to know in details how to book these tickets).

Otherwise you can even think off buying tickets on 2055 DDN JAnshatabdi which would leave Delhi at 15.25 and reach Haridwar at 19.30. There are tickets on this train in "AC Sitting - CC" under Foreign Tourist Quota.

Cathy, as Gaurav says, you must be on train 4041, and you should go for Foreign Tourist Quota tickets if you're worried and if you're already in Delhi.

It's real easy to get the FTQ tickets, go to the Foreign Tourist office on the first floor of New Delhi station (above main entrance, but set back a bit), do not listen to anyone who tries to direct you to the office, or tells you the office has moved, or women need to buy from a separate office, or that mount Paharganj is about to erupt, ignore them all and find the place yourself, you'll need to pay for FTQ tickets with foreign currency, or show an encashment certificate (given when you exchange money) or show an ATM receipt, you'll also need your passport.

In all likelihood, your waitlisted ticket should get confirmed, even if there are no more cancellations.

I've found 22 available berths in 2A, 4 in FTQ, 4 in Defence quota, 4 in Parliament quota, and 10 in HO Quota, if any of these remain unsold, they are used to reduce the waitlist. (and they've all been available for 85 days already)

You need to move 8 places, 4 waitlist places and 4 RAC places, RAC = Reserved Against Cancellation, this gets you on the train, but only a seat, have a look in the 'RAC & Waitlists explained' article (link below) for a full explanation of RAC.
.
SOS: Missing Person...

Please look at this thread, even if you are not in India.: Have you seen Jonathan Spollen?

He could be anywhere now: You might have met him, be able to help, or give information.

Well the other two are very difficult to be converted the chances are nil as there are only two eats reserved for that leg and you are already holding those two seats. The only option is to use the Foreign Tourist Quota tickets for the remaining two. These cannot be booked online but in selected group of Indian cities as included below:

( KOLKATA CHENNAI BANGALORE AHMEDABAD
SECUNDERABAD JAIPUR JODHPUR VARANASI
NEW DELHI AGRA-CANTT. AURANGABAD MUMBAI
RAMESHWARAM VADODARA VASCO-DA-GAMA )

Delhi-Haridwar train panic

Thanks Steven and Gaurav, for your help.

Steven, with respect to some things you said, I'd like to ask a couple of questions:

<<<In all likelihood, your waitlisted ticket should get confirmed, even if there are no more cancellations.>>>>>

How do you know this? The train is one of the ones that hundreds of people will want to use because of the Kumbh Mela.

<<<<I've found 22 available berths in 2A, 4 in FTQ, 4 in Defence quota, 4 in Parliament quota, and 10 in HO Quota, if any of these remain unsold, they are used to reduce the waitlist. (and they've all been available for 85 days already)>>>>>>>>

Oops - this answers my previous question, I think - is this the reason? How are you able to see the above information on quota allocations in all these classes? I haven't got a clue!

Finally, I'm in the UK at the moment and won't land in Delhi until Monday January 11th, which is the earliest that I could sort out the Foreign Quota tickets - are these only seats, as I absolutely hate doing overnight journeys with nowhere to lie down fully - so I really would prefer the sleeping berth that I'm waitlisted for. Do you have any further ideas on this?

Thanks so much for your extremely helpful comments - from a confused traveller!
Cathy x

##Out of the above, the Parliament House Quota (4) and HO (10) are normally used only on the day of journey. It cannot be predicted whether they will be "used" (or) "left unused" till the Charting is taken-up.

##Only FT (4) and DF (4) Quotas can be booked 90 days in advance and till the booking is closed, which happens only four hours before the scheduled departure of the train.
