Question Possible reasons for booking failure

I've managed to get to the stage of entering my visa details and confirming them online with my own bank, but then I get sent back to the IRCTC site with this message:

You Were Trying To Use icici Payment Gateway And The Transaction CouldNot Proceed Due To Communication Problem .

There was a problem in processing the transaction due to one of the following reasons:
You have used Back/Refresh button of your browser.
You may have processed the transaction from more than one window.
Bank has resent the transaction with the same transaction ID.
To check if the ticket is booked, please click on the "Booked Tickets" link on the left navigation. If not booked, you may proceed to book again. If excess amount is found to be debited from your account, the same will be credited back to your account.
We regret that your Transaction could not be processed.

I've re-tried about 3 times with the same result, and so know I am not pressing refresh or processing from more than one window.. is it possible that my bank is not allowing that transaction? Or is this a case where I just have to keep trying until it comes through?

I'm using the ICICI gateway as citibank didn't work the first time I tried and gave me an "insufficient funds" response which I know is not right. Should I try this again? I'm certain once I've made my first reservation the other thousand I have to do will be much easier!!

Thanks for any help!

I booked all mine (7) successfully using the AXIS gateway. That was from Aus using VISA. Different gateways allow different card options and country of origin. I have found this out in the last 2 monthsr so. Someone more experienced than I may have more to offer.

The AXIS gateway isn't available to me in the drop down list of payment options, only ICICI or citibank. The Axis bank is there but that leads me to a log-in page for which I do not have an id or password. I have called my credit card provider and there is no issues with me using my card in a foreign transaction.

Just managed to book one! I think it was that I was using "quickbook" because I had the train number, but that didn't offer me the AXIs gateway, whereas the "longer" booking did, and it worked! Don't really understand why there should be a difference between the two but I am just glad it is finally confirmed

Glad it worked out in the end. I was turned on to the AXIS gateway in another thread where Aussies were having trouble at the last stage of payment. Seems its a lot better and more reliable these days.
