Hi,
I booked the below ticket in Tatkal quota for me and my wife. While my ticket is showing Confirmed, my wife's ticket is waitlisted (CKWL 1). 1. Can she travel with me on this ticket, as it is partially waitlisted, even for Tatkal WL ? Is it possible that she might get a berth ? 2. Since this ticket is partially waitlisted in Tatkal quota, what cancellation rules would be applicable for this ticket ? Would the "25% refund only for Tatkal" rule be applicable to my ticket, as it is partially waitlisted, with 1 confirmed Tatkal ticket and 1 waitlisted. Thanks, Nitin Train No. & Name: 2781/SWARNA JAYANTHI Date of Journey:02-May-2009 Class: 2A Date of Booking:27-Apr-2009 08:45:22 AM Date of Boarding:02-May-2009 From: PUNE JN(PUNE) To : H NIZAMUDDIN(NZM) Distance: 1589 KM Boarding : PUNE JN(PUNE) Resv Upto: H NIZAMUDDIN(NZM) Quota: Tatkal Scheduled Departure: 16:15 Total Fare : Rs 3908.00 Adult: 2 Child: 0 *Departure time printed on the ERS is liable to change. If your wife's ticket is not confirmed. It'll be automatically canceled and she will not be allowed to board the train.
Regarding cancellation of waitlisted Tatkal tickets, normal rules apply.

Thanks!
But I'm still confused. Why does the e-ticket print then explain "Fully Waitlisted" and "Partially Waitlisted" tickets and says only that - Fully waitlisted won't be allowed to board. nitin |

Dear delhiwala,
If your wife's ticket is not confirmed. It'll be automatically canceled and she will not be allowed to board the train. ##I am afraid, it won't get automatically get cancelled because there is One Confirmed Passenger in this ticket. |

Dear Suma,

Hi Srinivasa,
Could you please take a moment to answer my original query. I've been getting conflicting info even from the railways - 1. Can she travel with me on this ticket, as it is "Partially waitlisted", even for Tatkal WL ? Is it possible that she might get a berth ? 2. Since this ticket is "Partially waitlisted" in Tatkal quota, what cancellation rules would be applicable for this entire ticket (if I cancel both the bookings on the PNR) ? Would the "25% refund only for Tatkal" rule be applicable to my ticket, as it is partially waitlisted, with 1 confirmed Tatkal ticket and 1 waitlisted. Thank you ! |

Dear Delhiwala,
Please look at this: ---- Cancellation of e-Tickets after the preparation of Reservation charts: After chart preparation, Refunds for Confirmed/RAC/Partially Confirmed Eticket will be processed through TDR process. Customer can file TDR online and refund sanctioned by Railways would be credited back to user/agents account. Refund claims under above clause may require at least 90 days or more for processing. Only those PNRs whose Date of journey is less than 30 days will be listed and shall be eligible for applying TDR. Customers are requested to select PNR which are eligible for TDR filing. Please refer to File TDR Procedure ---------------- Relevant Extract from ERS Slip: "E-Ticket is permitted in the Train against a berth/seat when his name appears in the reservation chart failing which he can be treated as a passenger travelling without ticket" ----------- ##When one passenger is confirmed and one is NOT confirmed, the name of the passenger who is NOT confirmed also appears in the chart as NOT CONFIRMED. Perhaps, this might help the IRCTC to process the Refund, when TDR is filed. ##All said & done, one confirmed & one not confirmed in a E-Ticket is an avoidable situation!!! |

This TDR route is big non sense....I canceled one ticket when train was late by more than 4 hours. I then claimed refund through this route.... My money reached me after full one year.......and that too after many reminders......

Dear Delhiwala,
You are lucky, atleast you got it after one year. On several occasions, I have suggested in this Forum that it is always better to avoid cancellation of E-Ticket after Chart Preparation. |

Dear nitinitin,
Since this ticket is "Partially waitlisted" in Tatkal quota, what cancellation rules would be applicable for this entire ticket (if I cancel both the bookings on the PNR) ? ##Normal Rules will apply even in your case. If you cancel your wife's waitlisted ticket, you will have to forego only Rs.20/-. ##But, since your date of journey is 2nd May,2009, you please wait upto 1.5.2009. -------------------------------- ##Please look at this: 2781 SWARNA JAYANTHI 2-05-2009 PUNE JN H NIZAMUDDIN GENERAL S.No. Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Class - 2A Class -3A 1 2- 5-2009 REGRET/WL 35 REGRET/WL 26 2 9- 5-2009 REGRET/WL 33 REGRET/WL 26 3 16- 5-2009 REGRET/WL 26 REGRET/WL 30 4 23- 5-2009 REGRET/WL 26 REGRET/WL 31 5 30- 5-2009 REGRET/WL 25 REGRET/WL 25 6 6- 6-2009 WL 14/WL 11 REGRET/WL 26 ....................... 2781 SWARNA JAYANTHI 2-05-2009 PUNE JN H NIZAMUDDIN TATKAL S.No. Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Class - 2A Class -3A 1 2- 5-2009 REGRET/WL 3 REGRET/WL 3 2 9- 5-2009 AVAILABLE- 0002 AVAILABLE- 0002 3 16- 5-2009 AVAILABLE- 0002 AVAILABLE- 0002 4 23- 5-2009 AVAILABLE- 0002 AVAILABLE- 0002 5 30- 5-2009 AVAILABLE- 0002 AVAILABLE- 0002 6 6- 6-2009 AVAILABLE- 0002 AVAILABLE- 0002 .............................. .................... ##The Tatkal Quota itself is 2 Berths, out of which you got One Berth. If the other passenger cancels his/her ticket, then your wife might get confirmed. ##By the way, the Charts for 2781 at Pune would get finalised at about 12.00 noon on 2.5.2009. If you want to cancel your wife's ticket, please do it before 12.00 noon on 2.5.2009. ##But, in any case, have you kept any alternative as a back-up measure, because the MYS-NZM General Quota and MYS-NZM Tatkal Quota have also gone into Waiting List? Thanks for the response, Sir !
I guess by "Normal rules" you mean Tatkal rules would NOT apply even in my case, if I cancel both ticekets 24 hours before chart preparation. Just confirming. I tried Tatkal booking at 8 AM on Sunday and Monday mornings for May 1st and 2nd, in all trains from Pune/Mumbai to Delhi. But both days either the booking transactions were failing or the website itself was down with message "service unavailable". On both days the site got functional around 8.35 - 8.40 AM, by when the party was over ! And this is the ticket I could manage finally.Current plan is to cancel the "partially waitlisted" ticket and waste my money on flight tickets, which I think could've been avoided if I had gone through an "agent" instead of relying on irctc for Tatkal booking. Thanks! |

Since, your's is a confirmed Tatkal Ticket, you will get only 25% of the total amount paid, if you cancel the ticket one day in advance; and NOTHING if you cancel your ticket on the day of journey. ##When I said normal Rules, it is for Waitlisted Tatkal Ticket ONLY. |

This "partially waitlisted" ticket is getting to be a nightmare for me.
Sir, could you please take a look at the below response by Railway minister on "partially waitlisted" Tatkal cancellation. It seems to suggest that full refund would be granted on "partially confirmed Tatkal tickets". http://pib.nic.in/release/release.asp?relid=47999 "Lok Sabha A flat refund of 25% of total fare charged on the ticket, excluding Tatkal charges is granted on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal ticket, which are presented for cancellation upto 24 hours before the schedule departure of the train. Thereafter, no refund is granted on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets. However, full refund of fare and Tatkal Charges is granted on the tickets booked under Tatkal Scheme in the following circumstances:- 1. If the train is delayed by more than 3 hours at the journey originating point of the passenger & not the boarding point if the passenger’s journey originating point and boarding point are different; 2. If the train is to run on a diverted route and the passenger is not willing to travel; 3. If the train is to run on diverted route and boarding station or the destination station or both the stations are not on the diverted route; 4. In case of non-attachment of coach in which Tatkal Accommodation has been earmarked and the passenger has not been provided accommodation in the same class; 5. If the party has been accommodated in lower class and does not want to travel. In case the party travels in lower class, the passenger will be given refund of difference of fare and also the difference of Tatkal charges, if any; In case of wait list/partially confirmed Tatkal tickets, refund rules of normal tickets are applicable. This information was given by the Minister of State for Ministry of Railways, Dr. R. Velu in a written reply in Lok Sabha today. " |

Nitin. You are going overboard now. Were you not aware of the risks in booking a Waitlisted Ticket. Even at booking conter they mention specially if the ticket is W/L.You have taken a risk and have if the risk does not go in your favor you should had been prepared for consequences. Booking in TATAKL W/L is more risky than a normal W/L.
Make alternate plan or just pray to god. |

Dear nitinitin,
##Your confirmed Tatkal Ticket is covered under the following clause: -------- A flat refund of 25% of total fare charged on the ticket, excluding Tatkal charges is granted on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal ticket, which are presented for cancellation upto 24 hours before the schedule departure of the train. Thereafter, no refund is granted on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets. ============================== ========================= ##Your waitlisted tatkal ticket is covered under the following clause: In case of wait list/partially confirmed Tatkal tickets, refund rules of normal tickets are applicable. |
