Palace on Wheels
Has anyone ever been on the Palace on Wheels?
Is it a worthwhile experience or would I be better off making my own way to the various destinations? Time is not a limiting factor on my trip, but I get the impression that this would be a fantastic way to travel for a week or so. The only downside may be that I'd end up revisiting all the places myself in order to spend more time there....or is a day at each destination enough time? Thanks )Last edited by joliecoeur : Sep 23rd, 2004 at 19:33. Reason: typo! |

Time travel!!
Go for it if money is not a problem the tour looks good if a bit rushed ,but the accomodation is frankly amazing.
I've only had a look from the outside when it's been parked up somewhere but looking at their website the interior looks well comfortably decadent!! One downside I am aware of, the visit to Bharatpur bird park gives you about 2 hours. If this is indicative of the time allowed on a visit to a park or monument you might be sorely disappointed you spent so much money!! As with all tours it may be a bit regimented but hey some folks like it that way. Let us know if you do the tour! Palace On Wheels |

On second thoughts, maybe not!
Time is not a limiting factor but cash definitely is! I heard about the Palace on Wheels through the highly informative www.tourismofindia.com website and thought it sounded amazing but looking at those tariffs, the prices are way out of my league! I'd much rather rough it and spend a week at each of the destinations for a fraction of the price... ![]() |

We're planning a trip in early 2005 and I, too, refuse to pay those kinds of prices! Also, I met someone recently who had taken it and said they had gotten deathly ill from the food--guess high prices don't necessarily keep you safe from "Delhi belly".

Agreed that the train is absolutely amazing.....but..it does not offer value for money. For that price you could maybe buy a small train in India. The entire trip is too rushed. For instance it comes to Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve for 4 hours !!! How can you visit a tiger reserve for 4 hours ?
