Options from New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling

As it seems the toy train is still largely out of action, can anyone please recommend or advise on the following two options:

1. Getting a bus or shared jeep all the way from NJ / Siliguri to Darj. What are the options, in terms of local and /or tourist buses and / or shared jeeps and do they leave from NJ or Siliguri?
2. Getting bus to Kurseong to pick up the 15.00 diesel train to Darj. Is it worth getting the train for this latter section? Are there buses from NJ or Siliguri that connect with this train? And can you reserve seats on that train?

FROM NJP:
Bus: uncertain.
Shared cab: Sometimes available depending on tourists' influx

FROM SILIGURI CITY (Appox 10-12 KM from NJP. An Auto would charge appox 50/-):
Bus: Yes, from Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus.
Shared cab: Yes, regularly from the Cab Stand near Bus Stand.

REACHING KURSEONG FROM NJP:
Only option is exclusive cab, which available at NJP Station itself. Journey time: Appox 2-1/2 hours.

FROM SILIGURI CITY:
Regular Shared cab is plying between Siliguri to Kurseong. The stand is near to Mahananda Bridge. Journey time: 2 hours appox.

Exclusive cab is also available ex-Siliguri. Buses are also available, but frequency of service is not so good.

Catching Kurseong-Darjeeling Toy Train from NJP or Siliguri City is very much feasible. Please reach NJP well in advance.

As far as the Kurseong - Darjeeling train is concerned Cleartrip list it and if you have an account with them or Irctc you can book on line. In my view it is worth the effort to take the train ride. If you are looking for steam haulage you need to book one of the Darjeeling - Ghum Joy Train rides.
