Ooty toy train- Waiting list ticket
Ooty Coonoor is by TOY Train. The Metupalaiyam - Udagamandalam (Ooty)Toy Train passes through coonoor
If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you might better stay home. ~James Michener
yes even that is the toy train... a gud experience...but it doesnot give the same experience which u will get in the MTP-UAM toy train. the hills and valley view is excellent between MTP and coonoor. Still, to get an experience of toy train and to get good valley view between ooty and coonoor, its a ooty-coonoor train is very good choice.
Thanks for your reply! I'm sorry if I sound a little dumb here but since I haven't traveled much on Indian Railways I'm sort of lost.
Why are the train numbers and names different? Are these 2 different toy trains?
667/UAM ONR PASSR
662/MTP UAM PASSR
Thanks.

when i made a trip to ooty last year , i stayed in coonoor and every day morning went to ooty by coonoor-ooty train which starts from coonoor at 7.30 in the morning. Coonoor is very quiet and clean place when compared to ooty... so stayed in coonoor and went to ooty for 2 days for sight seeing. and in the evening this same train returns from ooty to coonoor at 5.30pm so we used to come back to coonoor by 7pm
Thanks suryaperi and LunavadaLad! Next time we'll definitely try out the whole UAM-MTP route!
Is it worth getting into the toy train both for MTP-UAM and UAM-MTP journey or one should take one of the rides by road.please advise.

Dear Sir,
We're travelling from OOty to Mettupalayam on 02 Jan 2011, and we don't want to miss the Toy train journey. Tried for reservation it says heavily Waitlisted; FC-WL26/W23 2S-WL54/WL34.
Please advise its there any chance of getting a reservation confirmed if I book it now.
Reservation Ticket is available from Ooty till coonoor, don't think we could enjoy it the most compared to the complete journey.
Hw can we make our journey from Coonoor to Mettupalayam if not by toy train.
Regards,
Nelson.

Hi Anishk,
We're looking forward fo journey down the way from Ooty to Mettupalayam. how can we continue from Coonoor to Mettupalayam if not by Toy train.
I've a small baby with me, hence would not prefer to be hectic journey.

I would recommend taking a taxi up and down since you've got a baby with you. You will need a car in Ooty anyway so might as well reach at your own pace. You can stop along the way as well, which would be good if the baby needs to adjust to the altitude.
I went to Ooty in October and I was disappointed not to get train tickets as there was a holiday that weekend and it was very crowded there. I think the train WL was into the 100s then. So we took a taxi from Coimbatore and reached Ooty in about 5 hours with a few stops along the way. The views were quite good by car - I stopped for photos several times on the way.
you can keep your train booking and hope that the waitlist clears, but I would book a taxi to be safe.

You will have no problems. As you have a confirmed ticked from Ooty to Coonoor, then at least use that part of the journey and enjoy that. I presume this is on the same train which then proceeds towards Mettupalayam? If so, when you reach Coonoor, you can see if you can somehow manage to get seats on the continuing train down to Mettupalayam. Otherwise if this is not possible, you can very easily take a bus down to Mettupalayam from Coonoor. Even the slowest buses are much faster than the train anyhow, and you will reach Mettupalayam before the train arrives. This is even if you have to wait some time in Coonoor to get seats. There will be a bus at least every 10 to 15mins and the place where the fast buses to Mettupalayam stop is only a 5min walk from the train station. Also, there are some unofficial shared taxis that go down to Mettupalayam once in a while (empty taxis on return journeys) which may offer a more comfortable and faster ride. They will cost only a little more than the bus.Few buses actually start in Coonoor, and most of them will be coming from Ooty and only stopping in Coonoor to pick up more passngers. If you are unable to get seats on any of these buses, walk to the main bus stand and wait for one of the buses that starts its journey from Coonoor. If all else fails, you can still opt to hire a taxi in Coonoor for the trip down to Mettupalayam which will only take 1 hour.
Is Mettupalayam your final destination or are you proceeding by Nilgiri Express to Chennai? If so, you will have no problem in reaching this. Also, if you are intending on travelling onwards to Coimbatore, many buses that go from Coonoor to Mettupalayam proceed towards Coimbatore so just ask, and then stay on the same bus.

Thanks so much Chief-The confirmed ticket is of morning train that ends at Coonoor. We've to look out for other way of transport.
Yes We'll be travelling ahead to Coimbatore. If we get the bus from Coonoor to Coimbatore nothing like it, And great to know that Taxi's are available at Coonoor.
Thanks for your inputs.
