Thumbs up online rail booking

I just organised 2 train tickets through Indian Railways online booking facility--- http://www.irctc.co.in/
No problem at all, apart from a rather dodgy connection at times. I had a query and sent them an email. Was amazed to get a prompt response from a real live person.Even got 30% senior's concession!
Go for it.

Great news! This means that in just over 2 years I'll be able to get 30% off too! This will be very welcome as I only have a UK state pension coming up and not a full one at that - too many years spent wandering around.

Does anyone know if Indian airline companies also give commission to decrepit foreigners?

Yes Alan
Jet Airways offers 25% off some flights only. I assume IA does likewise. We "grey nomads" deserve some consolation for our approaching decrepitude.!

I booked two legs of a trip on the internet and paid with a credit card and ticket pickup is in Delhi when we arrive. IRCTC has sent a confirmation number, times, dates etc. and doing business with them was relatively painless-actually it was great fun.
Sabi,
Contact the website and you can find out if there is a pickup location in Mumbai, I think there is.

Alan: all three airlines have the 25% seniors discount. You might be interested in the Super Sixer deal from Sahara as well -- 6 coupons good for all Sahara flights and can be shared by a couple, 90 days to use them, for $600. If you wanted to cover some long distances as in north-south, could be a real bargain. Another thing with the rail senior discounts: age is 65 for males, but only 60 for women -- so perhaps you're already half-way there!

Better than half way there.
In the 2003/04 Budget the age for males was lowered to 60, same as for women,.
That is for rail travel.

Jet Airways is 65 for both, so I suppose the other airlines are the same.

That is good news, 30% discount, just what I needed to cheer me up, this is Altzheimers week and the ABC is taking $1 for every Altzheimers joke, some are a little bit close to the bone, for example
Q: What is the nicest thing about Altzheimers?
A: You are always meeting new people!!

Kids are half price, but I see no mention of discounts for the age impaired.
