Oberoi Maidens & Golden Triangle - July

We are trying to decide whether to book to stay at the Oberoi Maidens in the Dehli University area. Has anyone stayed there recently and how convenient is the location? I understand that the hotel has just gone thru a renovation and that the new Metro line stops near the university.

Also we want to book train travel on the Shadabti? train from Delhi to Agra to Jaipur - can this be done in advance from Canada or do we have to endure the lineups in the train stations when we get there.

We are also looking for hotel recommendations in Jaipur and Agra with a maximum price limit of $100US per day.

Thanks in advance.

Regarding the train, you can book the SHATABDI Express Delhi-Agra or Delhi-Jaipur from Canada, through this site.

The only inconvenience with the Shatabdi is that you have to get up very early since it leaves Delhi at 6:10 AM.

Consider using the Volvo buses - more details at
http://www.rsrtc.gov.in/services.htm

Most travel agents charge about INR 30/- per ticket to deliver tickets (Jaipur rates, Delhi may be slightly higher) to your hotel, so you need not stand in a queue whether you are travelling by train or bus.

I've stayed at the Oberoi Maidens. It's in Old Delhi, a little out of the fray, but very close to the Red Fort and all that. It was in need of a renovation. It had all the musty charm of a colonial pile, but was pretty nice. I would be interested to see what it looks like now. I would certainly stay there again.

What do you mean by "convenient"? That word really doesn't exist in India.
